New & Improved Date!
MCBC 'Covid Business Survival Awards'

We decided to put off our gala event until all of the holiday madness has subsided. So, please mark your calendar for the “new and improved” date of Friday evening, Feb. 24, from 6-9 p.m. Instead of a normal celebration of what would be the Monterey County Business Council’s 25th anniversary, we’re going to call this event our “Covid Business Survival Awards.” We’ll have fun while we honor some of the businesses and people who have successfully weathered the storm of the last few years. $195 per person (we should mention it’s at Pebble Beach’s posh Inn at Spanish Bay). Click here to register. For sponsorship opportunities, please email our CEO at Kimbley@MCBC.biz.

Monterey Regional Airport has announced that American Airlines will use larger aircraft for its flights to Dallas- Fort Worth beginning on Feb 3.
“American Airlines is excited to introduce mainline service between Monterey Regional Airport and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport this February,” said Philippe Puech, American’s Director of Short Haul Network Planning. “We look forward to serving MRY with an Airbus A319 aircraft, offering local residents with greater access to hundreds of destinations in America’s global network and connecting more customers to experience the beauty of the California coast.”
This is in response to the growing popularity of the Monterey County Regional Airport. The A319 that will now be used will nearly double the number of available seats each day, with 128 total seats.
“The announcement today of this significant upgrade of aircraft to Dallas-Fort Worth by American Airlines further validates the strength of the Monterey market and our partnership with American Airlines,” said Michael La Pier, Monterey Regional Airport’s Executive Director. “For the first time in nearly three decades, our region will enjoy daily non-stop service on a mainline aircraft which will increase our available seats by nearly 40,000 per year in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. As always, the challenge for our region is to use the service and fill the new seats. We want to thank American Airlines for the confidence they have shown in our region by taking this step today.”

City of Gonzales Selects Trevin Barber as the New City Manager

GONZALES, Calif.– January 27, 2023 – After an extensive and thorough search resulting in candidates applying from across the nation, the Gonzales City Council has appointed Trevin Barber to the position of City Manager.  Barber most recently served as Assistant City Manager at the City of Seaside.  He brings to his new position over twelve years of diverse municipal management experience in the areas of finance, economic development, redevelopment, policy initiatives, special projects management, legislative and intergovernmental affairs.

“Trevin’s youthful energy and enthusiasm as well as his well-rounded experience and deep understanding of municipal government were important factors in our selection.  I am confident Trevin has the skills and experience to lead our city into the future and I am excited to welcome him to our city,” said Mayor Jose Rios.

Prior to joining the City of Seaside, Barber served as Senior Management Analyst with the City of Gilroy. Directly supporting the City Council and City Manager, Barber implemented economic development and performance management programs. He represented the City of Gilroy in a variety of public forums, developing constructive community relationships with various diverse interest groups to build consensus.  Barber also spent over eight years serving in various roles with the City of Lancaster.  He was directly involved with the planning, development, management, and implementation of programs and innovative policy initiatives including several successful economic development projects.

“I am honored the City Council has selected me to be the next City Manager and I am thrilled to serve the beautiful community of Gonzales. 20th Annual Transportation Excellence Awards
The Transportation Agency presented their 20th Annual Transportation Excellence Awards to honor community members, programs and projects that make a significant contribution to improve transportation in Monterey County. This year’s awards honorees are:
Andrew Easterling, Traffic Engineer, City of Salinas, for his development and implementation of the Vision Zero Integrated into Maintenance program and dedication to safe routes to schools planning and projects. Andrew worked closely with safe routes to school program partners to develop the Salinas Safe Routes to School Plan from 2019 - 2022 and through the Vision Zero program has already been able to start to implement projects that make it safer for children and people of all ages to get around Salinas.
“Vision Zero” is a strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. “Safe Routes to School” is a TAMC program which offers tools, programming, and resources to schools, guardians, and communities aimed at improving safety and traffic around schools. The “Salinas Safe Routes to School Plan” was adopted, covering safety recommendations and educational programming for 45 schools throughout Salinas.
The City of Pacific Grove Public Works, Point Pinos Coastal Recreational Trail, completed in 2022 addressed nearly a one-mile stretch of coastline on Ocean View Boulevard generally known as Point Pinos. Prior to this project, Point Pinos lacked formalized, safe, and accessible coastal amenities for its various users, including trails, parking, and coastal access points. This stretch also represented the only gap of the California Coastal Trail between the City of Monterey and the three of four miles of PG Coastline.

The Point Pinos Trail project significantly improved safety, access parking, and stormwater capture with the construction of an ADA-compliant, 5-foot-wide trail, a boardwalk, formalized coastal parking, the installation of 10 beach access points, native plant restoration, and various stormwater improvements. All users can now more safely enjoy the Pacific Grove coastline; and have better connections to the larger trail network along the Central Coast.
