Our Grade 6 and 7 boys are currently on their annual camps in Hermanus and Tulbagh. For 2023, we opted to schedule these earlier in the year than in previous years. For us, camps serve multiple purposes, but primarily help our boys build strong relationships with their peers and teachers, setting the tone for a positive learning environment for the entire school year. We see our camps as an opportunity for our boys to take risks (in a safe space), challenge themselves, and succeed in new and different environments, which can contribute to their overall self-esteem and resilience.

Yesterday virtually the entire school got involved in World Read Aloud Day. WRAD is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of reading and sharing stories, and to encourage people of all ages to engage in the joy of reading. The main goals of the day are to promote literacy, empower children and communities through storytelling, and to encourage lifelong learning and a love of reading.

It provided myself and Mr Rhode the opportunity to read in classes and share our passion for books and storytelling with the boys. As parents please do take the opportunity to read to your boys, and to let them read to you.

Next we we have a busy programme so please pay particular attention to our calendar and the details for each of the events. New to our programme is the Foundation Phase Athletics event that will take place on Thursday. The intention with having this as a stand alone event is to enhance the experience of our younger boys so that they can have fun.

Mr Cedric Poleman
Headmaster
Grade 1
The Grade 1s have settled in well and it’s full steam ahead. By now the boys have had the opportunity to experience their full programme as it will be for the rest of the year. They have enjoyed music, computers, the library and Phys. Ed. lessons in between all the academic work in the classroom. In the pictures, boys can be seen participating in a jolly phonics lesson using their new letter cards. They had to identify sounds, check that their friends had the correct sounds out, and even had a go at building some words. We look forward to an exciting year ahead.
Drama
Drama Club has started with a bang, with many 'strange characters' coming out of the woodwork this week. An exciting year lies ahead and it's been amazing to have so many new boys joining this creative group.
