Welcome, new folks!

Hi, there. I've had a number of people join the mailing list recently. I want to make sure everybody gets their free Frosthelm book, Traitors Unseen. If you haven't gotten it, you can get it free here (the site will ask you to sign up for this newsletter, which you're already getting) or here from Smashwords. It's also on Apple BooksKobo, and Barnes & Noble. Please, enjoy with my compliments.

Got Trouble doing well

Got Trouble, my new thriller set in North Carolina, is released and doing well. It's a story about Glynnis, a 40ish woman in a dysfunctional marriage who gets embroiled in an increasingly dangerous situation. It's gotten some positive reviews on both Amazon and Goodreads, and it's sold 23 copies in the first month, which is good for one of my releases. I've got a blog tour coming up which should help spread the word, and I'll be doing some other promotional activities in the next few months. if you'd like to register for a free copy, there's a giveaway raffle of 100 copies of the ebook happening on Goodreads right now. Get a copy (or register for a free one) today!

Kenai is coming!
I've commissioned some new cover art for my next release, Kenai, a book about Jess Amiko, a former space marine with a troubled past, who's serving as a one-woman security detail on an archeological dig on a remote planet. Here are two images, one for the full paperback cover, the other a crop for the ebook cover (although I'll have my designer decide exactly how to crop it for that).

I love the detail and the classic sci-fi style here, and I think it's perfect for the book. The artist is Kara Dahlheimer, and you can find more of her work here and here.

Getting the book edited and improved is my big task for February. I've got feedback from my early readers to implement and also some ideas for plot and character improvements. Once I get those done, it will be off to Tami, my editor/proofreader, and then out for all of you to read! I'm really excited to share this with you.

Other projects

I've got Tide's End, my mermaid horror story entered in a competition, and I should hear more about how that's doing soon. I have another modern-day thriller nearly done, although finishing it will have to wait until after Kenai's released. I also have an idea for a new fantasy novel which will be my next project, aiming for a mid-year release in time for SPFBO. So, busy times here in my basement (I mean, my ultramodern writing command center, which just happens to be in a basement next to my HVAC unit).

Some stories to try

I'm part of several author collectives, and we share each other's work to try to help all of us reach more readers. In many cases, the books we share are are free or discounted. Sometimes, they ask that you sign up for a newsletter like this one.

First, I have The Shadow Spinner by Erik Kao. This is a free sample of the book to try. It's the story of an old hermit and a young apprentice gathering a team of champions (or misfits and charlatans posing as champions, at least). Looks like great stuff, and you can give the first bit a read for free to see if it's your kind of thing.

Second, I have Light of the Unhallowed by Luna Fox and F. Lowberry, an epic fantasy story of Maya, a scholar, in an ancient and far-distant kingdom. It's on sale for $0.99 right now. Have a look!

Third, I have a collection of sci-fi stories, Sapience, by Alexis Lantgen. A variety of stories, some dark and disturbing, some satirical, woven by an experienced writer and futurist. One reviewer comments, "These stories are beautifully written with a sensitivity often lacking in sci-fi."

Fourth, I have Cliff Hock: Infestation Nation by M. Rothmusa story about a bounty hunter doggedly tracking a mysterious target through and around a Dyson sphere. Sci-fi adventure in a far-distant future!

Finally, I have a group promotion of forty free books for you to try. They're in all different genres, including epic fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal, vampires, dragons, and two with bare torso covers if that's your kind of thing. You're sure to find something interesting to get for free! Please check it out.

Thanks

Thanks so much for signing up for my newsletter. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for upcoming books! I love hearing from people. If you've read one of my books and wouldn't mind leaving a review anywhere (Amazon, Goodreads, Bookbub, LibraryThing) I'd really appreciate it! Each review helps me reach more readers.

I hope you and your friends and family are having a safe and rewarding 2023!

May the Bloodmother watch over you -
Dave
