Thank you

To all students, parents and carers for managing the disruption of the NEU strike on Wednesday and the train strikes this week. We will be reviewing our arrangements in advance of the NEU regional strike planned for Wednesday 1st March and will communicate our proposed plans via the bulletin on Friday 17th February and confirm arrangements via email on Tuesday 28th February. Thank you.

Evening of Dance
– Wednesday 8th February 2023

The Evening of Dance is an opportunity for our students to showcase their skills and creativity through dance. This will be the first Evening of Dance where we have invited an audience since February 2020 and so we are really looking forward to what historically has been a wonderful evening!

Tickets are available to purchase here. We really hope that you can join us.

Notices from the Parents’ Association

Next PA Meeting

As previously mentioned, our next Parents Association meeting will be held on Wednesday 1st March at 7pm. More details to follow closer to the date.

Tonight’s Disco

For all of you Year 7/8 parents whose daughters are attending tonight’s disco, just a few reminder points:

  • Start time is 7.30pm, the girls won’t be allowed in until then so please keep this in mind when you drop them off

  • Don’t forget your ticket!

  • There will be a tuck shop for the purchases of drinks/snacks

  • No children other than SCGSG and BVGS pupils will be admitted

  • Phones are allowed but are not to be used as cameras during the disco

  • The disco ends at 9.30pm and the girls must be collected from the school by a parent/carer, they will not be allowed to walk home on their own.

We’re really looking forward to hosting a fun night and welcoming all the youngsters to our school.

Parents’ Association – Match Funding

You will hopefully be aware of the fantastic work your Parents’ Association are doing to raise funds for our school. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you about the match funding scheme and how a little bit of your time could raise double the funds for the PA.

If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer. Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on. Usually, the employee will need to supply them with a letter from the PA detailing the date and nature of the event, together with the total raised.

We understand that the high street banks, building societies, supermarkets and large corporations are likely to do match funding, but these schemes are not exclusive to the major corporate giants. If you work for an independent company, they may be interested in charitable giving through match funding too.

We would be grateful if you could see if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match fund any of our events. If you can’t help out this time, but you know the company you work for has a match funding policy, please let us know. This could be a large source of income for the PA and help us raise money for our extracurricular activities.

If you are able to help us this way, please email SAF@suttcold.bham.sch.uk and we can discuss your companies’ requirements.

Preloved Uniform

Since the Preloved Uniform became available, we have sold a total of 79 items during its first month. The total raised so far is over £300.00. Ordering, paying and collection is now only 48 hours. We have sold out on many items so, if you have wish to donate any of your preloved uniform to increase our stock, please bring them to the Main Office.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Emotionally Healthy Approach to GCSEs

As we approach the run up to exam season, it is important that we support our students to manage their wellbeing and workload in a balanced way to avoid 'burnout'.  The following guide has useful suggestions and tips for parents whose children are approaching their GCSEs.

The guides are packed with practical tips and ideas to support young people before, during and after exam time. Although written in reference to GCSEs, the content can be applied to any exam.

Public Transport advice

We want to make sure that our students remain safe on public transport. If anyone experiences issues with crime or anti-social behaviour, we recommend the following:

On the Train: Report crime or incidents on your train or at your station discreetly by texting the British Transport Police on 61016

On the Bus: If you experience anti-social behaviour on your bus journey, text “SeeSay” and details of the incident to 81018.

Encouraging Open Discussions about Digital Lives

Next Tuesday (7th February) is Safer Internet Day: the annual event to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital tech among children and young people. This year’s title is ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online’ – giving young voices a platform to shape the kinds of online safety support that they receive.

Simply checking in with children regularly about their experiences – both good and bad – in the digital world is a brilliant way to engage with what they’re currently into online, while also acting as a valuable early warning system about potential issues. To support Safer Internet Day, this week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide has some top tips for initiating these helpful catch-up chats.
