State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System: Data Reports

The State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) is a surveillance system that provides comprehensive data on unintentional and undetermined intent drug overdose deaths that occur in the state. Information is collected from death certificates, coroner reports, and toxicology reports. South Dakota currently has two full years of SUDORS data available.

There were 63 unintentional and undetermined overdose deaths in 2020 and 82 deaths in 2021. Opioids and stimulants accounted for the largest proportion of overdose deaths in South Dakota. Overall, the largest proportion of overdose deaths was among males, individuals aged 35-44 years, and those who were White. And of the deaths with a coroner report available, 56% had at least one opportunity for intervention identified.

The 2022-2027 Diabetes State Plan

With the vision of South Dakotans living free from the burden of diabetes, the South Dakota State Strategic Plan 2022-2027 is a collaboration of state and local partners working on diabetes prevention and management strategies across the state to prevent diabetes and improve the quality of life for all South Dakotans affected by diabetes. The involvement of a broad range of partner organizations helped to ensure that the plan reflects a shared purpose and will be a useful and relevant tool for all audiences in South Dakota dedicated to diabetes prevention and management. This five-year strategic plan will act as a ‘blueprint’ – providing direction, focus, and accountability over the next five years.
