American Mathematics Competition: Results!
On January 20th, 13 Ravens participated in the middle school American Mathematics Competition (AMC 8).
Eleven out of 13 students finished at or above the national median for their grade level. One student finished in the top 5% of test-takers and is on the national Honor Roll. A second student is on the Achievement Roll for outstanding performance by students in sixth grade or younger. The top 3 scorers answered a combined 52 of 75 questions correctly, placing Robert Eagle Staff on the school-level Merit Roll in the top 25% of participating schools.
Congratulations to everyone who participated! If you are in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade and would like to participate in the AMC 8 next year, please email mathclub@eaglestaffptsa.org for more information.

Call for Vinyl
For student art project
Do you have a stash of vinyl albums languishing in your basement or closet?
If you are ready to part with a few of those gems, Robert Eagle Staff would love to have them. Students who will not be attending the 7th Grade Camp Experience will use them to create some amazing vinyl bowls. We'll be sure to spotlight them in the newsletter!
Please send your old vinyl in with your student or bring them in yourself and leave them in the box in the main office. Thanks in advance!

Parent Workshop on Promoting Safety in Teen Dating
Monday, Feb 13, 6:30 - 8:00 PM, on Zoom
We are 12 days away from February, which is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Currently, 1 in 3 teens experience an abusive relationship but we have a chance to disrupt that today. New Beginnings provides dating education to youth from 10 schools in Seattle and Shoreline to improve dating skills and relationship health. However, prevention begins at home.
Join our Prevention Educators Victoria Orcutt and Meesh Vergara in a virtual workshop for parents on Monday Feb 13th 6:30-8pm on Promoting Safety in Teen Dating. They will also be joined by teen peer educators from Shorecrest HS to answer any questions you may have. All parents of any age children/teens are welcome.
Register now for a spot: tinyurl.com/ParentWorkshopTeenDating
Topics discussed:
- What curriculum does New Beginnings provide to middle schoolers?
- What is normal and healthy for teen dating?
- How can I support my kid even if they aren’t ready or interested in dating?
- 30 min Q&A with teen peer educators from Shorecrest High School’s Peer Consent Education team
FAQ
Q: What if my kid is too young to date or they aren’t interested?
A: It’s never too early to start talking about healthy relationships. You’ll learn age-appropriate ways to have discussions about healthy skills.
Q: What if I can’t attend the entire session?
A: Come for what you can! If you sign up, we can email you our slides after the workshop.
Q: Does my kid have to be in a New Beginnings program for me to join this workshop?
A: Any and all parents everywhere are welcome. Since we can’t be in every school, it’s important for us to have these open workshops for all parents.
Q: Will I learn what you teach at Crushin It?
A: Some of it! We have 12 sessions that run at 50 minutes each so we can’t go through each one, but we will give you an overview.
Q: Who do I reach out to with questions and accessibility needs?
A: Reach out to Prevention Educator Meesh Vergara Mvergara@newbegin.org

Boys Soccer Tryouts
Coaches Jon and Tom
Your soccer coaches, Jon and Tom, are getting set to kick off the spring soccer season. We are excited to get out there on the field and teach the kids some soccer, but more importantly give them an opportunity to get in shape, learn about teamwork, and meet fellow classmates.
All skill levels are encouraged to tryout! We do not intend to have cuts. Last year we had nearly 60 kids, fielding a Varsity, JV, and JVC team, and we expect to do the same again.
The season runs from April to June:
- Practices: Mondays and Thursdays
- Games: Saturdays
Tryout Dates/Times
- Monday, March 20th from 4:00-5:45 PM (On the RESMS field)
- Tuesday, March 21st from 4:00-5:45 PM (On the RESMS field)
We recommend athletic clothing for the tryouts, as well as cleats and shinguards if you have them. Please make sure to complete your FinalForms paperwork before tryouts. You can find instructions and a link to FinalForms on the RESMS Athletics page. (RESMS website => Student Life => Athletics)
Last year was an absolute blast and we ended our season by making it to the finals after a dramatic penalty kick victory in the semifinals. Fingers crossed we can have as much fun again! Details about timing and how to sign up are below.
See you out on the field!
Go Ravens!
