I'm looking forward to getting to work on these great committees where I have great interest and expertise. You can see what hearings are scheduled here (click on "committee calendars"). Hearings usually get posted on Friday afternoons for the following week.
Tonight my first bill of the year was heard in the Judiciary committee. It is a proposal to have a landlord registry. There are a surprising number of people who do not know who their landlord is (and sometimes, someone acts like a landlord but doesn't have the authority to be renting a unit, and the tenant ends up homeless). Sometimes it takes sleuthing on 2 or more websites to figure it out. Should this bill pass, there would be a single place to find out who is the landlord and how to contact them.
It's going to be really cold this weekend. Hopefully you will be inside somewhere warm. If you or anyone you know needs somewhere warm to go, here is the Providence list of warming centers plus the Cranston Street Armory is also open.
