In the classroom this week!

This week we've really enjoyed our new story "Dragon Post". We have used this book as a basis of some writing and designed our own pet dragon on a biscuit too!  Next week we will continue to focus on this book and use it to help us write some letters.
In Maths we've looked at capacity and 6,7 and 8.  We especially enjoyed using our noticing skills to find 6,7 and 8 things in our counting book.  There's been some super counting, you can also practise counting things at home.
In PE we've continued to develop our hopping , running, balancing , rolling and throwing skills.  In forest school we went on a dragon hunt.  We even asked Colin from the post office if he had ever been chased by a dragon - he told us yes all the time so watch out Arkholme there's a dragon about!
Have a lovely weekend, see you all next week for our last week before the holidays - time has flown by this half term!

Team Puffin

This week in Maths, Year 1 have been comparing numbers to 20 and using number lines to order numbers. In English, we have been identifying features in a set of instructions and will continue with writing instructions for baking next week.
Year 2 have been doing some assessments in maths.  The children worked hard on addition and subtraction quizzes and were very proud of themselves.  In art we have completed our sculptures which we will share with you next week.  In geography we have been showing what we have learnt about the UK, completing maps and matching games.  The children were all very pleased with themselves when they realised how much more they know now than they did 5 weeks ago!  In PE, we are continuing to practice our fundamental movement skills and enjoyed using our skills in a tactic game.
On Monday next week we will be heading down to the field so please bring wellies or boots!

Mrs Whitaker and Mrs James

Kingfishers have worked hard this week. They have enjoyed some terrific guest teachers!  They worked with Mrs Muckalt for a Joe Wicks style PE lesson on Monday, Mrs Ingram taught them RE and PHSE on Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Hamer took the lead on English and maths. On Thursday, they worked with Mrs Burgess to learn about the incredible bird life of the rainforest and plan their sculptures for next week. Today they have been exploring habitats and have been out and about with Mrs Cunliffe.
What a fabulous week!
We have also welcomed Mr Mossop to the Kingfisher Class team.  Mr Mossop will be working with the Kingfishers over the next few weeks as part of his PGCE course.
Please can all Kingfishers bring a clear plastic bottle and two wooden spoons into school on Monday.  We are going to be making bird feeders and a couple of children still need to bring in their resources.
Thank-you,
Mrs Burgess

Another busy week in Owls class this week as we approach half term.
In English this week, we have been planning our newspaper articles.  We have planned using the structure of a newspaper which we have learnt and what features should be included in each part.
In Maths, we completed our fractions unit by multiplying and dividing fractions, and we have now moved on to learning about decimal places.
In Geography, we learnt about what a superpower is, what makes the USA a superpower, and their role in climate change.
In PHSE, we talked about how we should react when we fall out with friends.
Finally we had a lot of fun in Art on Friday afternoon, creating our sets of rooms in houses.

Gardening Club
Gardening Club started up again for the new year last week. We sowed pots of marrowfat peas that will germinate on a sunny windowsill and grow into tasty pea shoots. Keep the pots well watered and they may need a little top-up of compost if things moved during transit home!
If anyone would like to help run gardening club sessions please let Fay know on 07850114283. We’ve got big plans for Gardening Club this year so please get involved if you’d like!
PTFA News

The PTFA need someone to take over the role of Committee Secretary.  If you would like to get involved, then please speak to Elle or Claire, and they can tell you more about it.  Thanks you.
