A Monthly Glimpse Into Our Educational Laboratory

The Global Health Education and Learning Incubator (GHELI) at Harvard University supports teaching and learning about cutting-edge, multidisciplinary global health challenges.

We innovate on pedagogical approaches and instructional strategies that bridge disciplinary fields, educational spaces, and types of learners.

We have a special focus on creating short-form multimedia content, as well as producing and field-testing prototypes that can be integrated in creative ways into classroom, online, and hybrid learning experiences.

This month, we’re sharing our new online gallery of creative projects, an opportunity for K-12 educators, and resources for talking about climate change in schools.

What does a book about a fish with anxiety, a podcast about youth vaping, and a video about food-insecure college students have in common? They are all among the projects featured in GHELI’s new online gallery. Designed to spotlight products from GHELI’s multidisciplinary teaching and learning activities, the online gallery features over 50 creative projects that users can explore by health topic or project medium. PDFs of each gallery page are also available for download.

Educator Opportunity: 2023 Global Studies Outreach Conference

Across the globe, the relationship between religion and nation-states is complex and dynamic. Religious nationalism, an often understudied aspect of this relationship, is key to understanding policies, personal and community impacts, and outcomes globally. Educators today must grapple with these issues as they teach their students to be global citizens.

This year, the Global Studies Outreach (GSO) Workshop will provide K-12 and community college teachers with a space to think, learn, and ask questions about religious nationalism in a variety of contexts. From India to Russia, Ethiopia to the United States, educators will learn about the ways religious nationalism manifests around the world and will explore, collectively, pedagogical responses to religious nationalism and how to teach about it in diverse classrooms.

Global Studies Outreach at Harvard is a collaboration amongst regional and internationally focused centers and programs at Harvard — including GHELI — that share a commitment to educational outreach. Learn more about GHELI's previous involvement and contributions to GSOC.

We know climate change shapes patterns in global health, but how can we spark meaningful action in our classrooms and homes? This month, we’re exploring two resources for educators and families alike.

🌎 Climate-Resilient California Schools: A Call to Action

A diverse coalition of stakeholders have crafted an action plan that proposes a path for ensuring every school in the state helps to mitigate both the impacts and the causes of the climate crisis. This report is rich with insights that can be applied across multiple classroom contexts, not just in California.
