We're hitting the ground running in 2023

Behind the scenes, we are making moves for a breakout year in 2023 and we want to keep our loyal supporters in the loop. Here’s your update:

We’re Hiring. We’re seeking two part-time apprentices to begin work on our inaugural investigation, as well as a part-time project director to help us launch the Investigative Project.

  • Apprentices: We’re recruiting early-career journalists to help produce an investigative project in partnership with a major Chicago news organization. Over five months, two apprentices will collaborate with experienced editors and reporters to get hands-on investigative reporting experience, while participating in our training and mentorship program. We are seeking a commitment of at least five hours per week. Apply by Feb. 17.
  • Project Director: We are also hiring the organization’s first paid staffer—a part-time project director (25 hours per week) to help keep us on task. This person will handle administrative functions, monitor revenue and expenses, maintain our website and manage our newsletter, among other things. Apply by Feb. 24.

Please forward this email to anyone who might be a good fit for these positions. Or reach out to us individually or at info@raceandequityproject.org.

Funding News. We recently got word that The Chicago Community Trust is supporting our efforts to create the only investigative outlet in Chicago dedicated exclusively to investigative journalism on race and equity. Its generous $75,000 grant will help fund our reporting and training of the next generation of investigative reporters of color who remain sorely underrepresented in newsrooms in Chicago and beyond.

The Chicago Community Trust is a community foundation dedicated to strengthening the Chicago region by creating equity, opportunity, and prosperity for all people who call it home. For more than 100 years, the Trust has united generous donors, committed nonprofits, and caring residents to effect lasting change.

We are so grateful!
