Dear Parents and Guardians,

There is a lot to celebrate around school these days!  Just yesterday, we held our annual Spelling Bee where two representatives from each 4th-8th grade classroom stood in front of a gym full of peers to demonstrate their spelling abilities.  A special congratulations to 5th grader Charlotte Fremau, this year’s winner, who will represent Holy Cross School at the Regional Qualifier round in February to see if she’ll be able to move on to the Indiana Regional Bee in March.

Another celebration worth sharing is the fact that so many of our classes are demonstrating incredible academic growth on their most recent NWEA tests!  NWEA automatically calculates a percent of projected growth that each class should strive to meet between testing sessions.  If the class’s total RIT growth is equal to the total growth projection, this number will be 100%.  A number above 100% indicates that a class's total RIT growth was higher than projected…great news for any teacher or administrator.  We have multiple classrooms already demonstrating percentages well above 100% in both Reading and Math!  Way to go, Crusaders!

In other news - also worth celebrating - Catholic Schools Week is next week.  Please make sure to take a careful look at the schedule of planned events and dress-down days for next week so that you are prepared for your child’s requests for crazy hair day, pajama day, and even “Bun Day.”  Please don’t forget to share this flier with friends and family who may be interested in enrolling their children here at Holy Cross School.

Thank you for sharing your children with us.  We are proud of their many accomplishments and eager to celebrate together.

Have a great week!

Queridos Padres y Guardianes,

This weekend we celebrate the Sunday of the Word of God… As [Pope] Francis stated in his apostolic letter instituting the observance, “Devoting a specific Sunday of the liturgical year to the word of God can enable the Church to experience anew how the risen Lord opens up for us the treasury of his word and enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches before the world.” …In observance of the Sunday of the Word of God, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, through a grant from the American Bible Society, is offering a “Sunday Seminar Series” of five videos about Sacred Scripture in the life of the Church… These videos are available at https://catholic.bible/sunday-of-the-word-of-god/
In the year ahead, make time at home to read and reflect on sacred Scripture, praying over it and growing into an ever deeper relationship with the Word who incarnates the word of God for us. Through reflecting on the word of God, we are prepared to enter into the Liturgy of the Eucharist at Mass and receive the very Word made flesh at communion.
