Representation of different groups based on sex, race or ethnicity, and disability status varies within the STEM workforce, and representation in STEM occupations is uneven relative to the distribution of these groups in the working age population. This report provides high-level insights from multiple data sources into the diversity of the STEM workforce in the United States.

NIST Risk Management Framework Aims to Improve Trustworthiness of Artificial Intelligence

The Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released its Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework (AI RMF 1.0), a guidance document for voluntary use by organizations designing, developing, deploying or using AI systems to help manage the many risks of AI technologies. 
Data Transforming Health Care Ebook
Technology is driving new opportunities to harness data, transforming health care as we know it. Agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Institutes of Health are developing responsible AI practices, leveraging data and dashboarding tools, and new hiring strategies to address health disparities.

We are focused on elevating early-career scholars, particularly from underresourced institutions, but everyone is welcome.

Trusted CI Webinar Series
Date: Febraury 27th
The mission of Trusted CI is to lead in the development of an NSF Cybersecurity Ecosystem with the workforce, knowledge, processes, and cyberinfrastructure that enables trustworthy science and NSF’s vision of a nation that is a global leader in research and innovation. This webinar will feature a presentation by Rick Wagner titled "Security Program for the NIH’s Common Fund Data Ecosystem" and begins at 11AM (ET).
Data Sharing and Cyberinfrastructure Working Group
Date: March 3rd
The Data Sharing and Cyberinfrastructure Working Group brings together data scientists and cyberinfrastructure professionals. Areas covered include data management and analytics tools and frameworks, and use of data science to solve real world problems in areas such as transportation, water quality, public health, disaster response, and cybersecurity. Working Group meetings are at 1PM (ET). 
Education and Workforce Working Group
Date: March 3rd
The Education and Data Science Workforce Group seeks to develop: open data to support education; faculty and student data science training; a growing data science workforce; academic training to support industry and government needs; and workforce development experiences for students.

The COVID Information Commons' (CIC) invites academics, students, and researchers of all backgrounds who are interested in the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on public health to join Social Impacts & Health Outcomes (SIHO) Working Group. The Working Group meets the first Monday of each month at 1PM (ET).

Food Systems, Nutrition, and Diet

The Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy presents the Tufts Nutrition Data Symposium (TNDS). This symposium establishes a necessary forum where students, researchers, academics, and young professionals can share, discuss, and explore diverse opinions, experiences, and expertise on emerging topics in the fields of nutrition and public health sciences.
PPPR Working Group Meeting

Join the Pandemic Prevention & Policy Research (PPPR) Working Group, hosted by the COVID Information Commons (CIC), to discuss forward-looking pandemic and epidemic prevention strategies to benefit humanity. NYC Open Data Week

Open Data Week is an annual festival of community-driven events organized and produced by the NYC Open Data Team at the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI)BetaNYC and Data Through Design.
Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and
Engineering (CASE) Workshop
Dates: March 26th - 29th
The CASE workshop is an exciting opportunity to learn from science policy and advocacy experts about the role of science in policymaking and the federal policy-making process. The workshop is being held in Washington, D.C. and teaches students about Congress, the federal budget, and science communication during the three-day course.
Indigenous Innovation, Data Economies, and AI (IDEAS) Summit
Date: March 31st
AI and ML are touted as the next step improving health, constructing digital systems to innovate new technologies, pioneering creative and artistic expression, and driving data economies. These movements necessitate the equitable inclusion of Indigenous communities to avoid further data erasures and inequities resulting from algorithmic bias. Join the conversation in the IDEAS Summit this March!

Cancer AI Research: Computational Approaches Addressing Imperfect Data

Dates: April 3rd - 4th
The goals of this National Cancer Institute workshop are to (1) examine the state of the science for AI methods designed to operate on noisy, complex, or low-dimensional data, (2) explore how these methods may be applied to key areas of cancer research, and (3) discuss processes for identifying the biological questions that will motivate further advances in machine learning.

10th Annual NJBDA Symposium: Big Data in FinTech

Date: May 9th
The New Jersey Big Data Alliance (NJBDA) is an alliance of 18 higher education institutions, as well as industry and government members, that catalyzes collaboration in advanced computing and data analytics research, education and technology.

Paper abstracts for the 10th Annual NJBDA Symposium will be accepted through March 25th on topics including, but not limited to: AI & Finance, Blockchain, Crypto & Digital Currencies, NFTs, and Big Data Business Intelligence.
Bio-IT World 2023 Hackathon

Dates: May 15th - 16th
Bio-IT World is proud to bring together innovative data scientists and developers from across the industry to solve real-world data challenges using the principles of Open Source & FAIR Data. In 2023, the fifth annual Bio-IT Hackathon will continue in the tradition of uniting life science and IT teams to tackle actual bioinformatics projects with maximum impact potential. 

Conference on Reproducibility and Replicability in Economics and Social Sciences Sessions

New Trends in Informatics Research Conference
Join the 2023 Ben Ami Lipetz Conference: New Trends in Informatics Research (NTIR), the yearly conference on current trends in information science research held by College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) at UAlbany on April 26-27, 2023. This event seeks to bring together the work of researchers and scholars from different disciplines to center on the implications and consequences of the free flow of information in computing.

CFP: 2023 Data Science for Social Good

Work closely with data science professionals and students to make better use of your data. The University of Washington Data Science for Social Good summer program at the eScience Institute brings together data scientists and domain researchers to work on focused, collaborative projects for societal benefit.

HackNY Fellows Program

The hackNY Fellows Program is a Summer-long co-living experience for full time Higher Ed (college or graduate school) tech interns. The Fellows Program is organized every summer, with rolling admission opening in November 2022. Boston Area Research Initiative Seed Grants
The Boston Area Research Initiative is inviting applications for research seed grants for projects occurring during the 2023 – 2024 academic year. The grants will support graduate students conducting original data-oriented research on the Boston area at the intersection of scholarship and policy.

2023 CBIIT Summer Internship Program Accepting Applications

Are you an undergraduate student who wants to gain valuable experience in data sharingdata aggregation, and data analysis? NCI’s Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT) invites you to participate in the NIH Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research (SIP).

Datawhys Summer Internship Program 2023

The DataWhys Project at The University of Memphis is developing a training program for HBCU students outside the core data science fields of statistics, machine learning, and computer science. As part of this internship, interns will use and provide feedback on this training program and complete an original data science research project—no background in data science is needed!

Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program in Data Science and Analytics
North Carolina A&T State University is hosting a ten-week program in Data Science and Analytics for science, mathematics and statistics, computer science, engineering, technology, business, and social science majors. This program will engage student interns via information technology and cloud computing in investigative research that entails developing tools in data analytics. 
Applications due March 8th. 
Big Data Scientist Training Enhancement Program (BD-STEP)
BD-STEP is a two-year fellowship opportunity managed jointly by the National Cancer Institute and the Veterans Health Administration that uses data science to improve outcomes for cancer patients. BD-STEP graduates gain diverse skillsets needed in healthcare data science careers.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through August 31st.

NEBDHub and the NSDC Announce Blockchain in Healthcare Today and Telehealth in Medicine Today Calls for Manuscripts

In collaboration with Blockchain in Healthcare Today (BHTY) and Telehealth in Medicine Today (THMT), the Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub and the National Student Data Corps invite data science enthusiasts, graduate students, educators, and researchers to respond to a new Call for Manuscripts (CFM) focused on data science and blockchain for healthcare.

Program to Empower Partnerships with Industry & Government
 
PEPI-G supports data faculty members, research scientists, postdocs, graduates, and undergraduates working on high level problems for the federal government. PEPI-G provides awards to defray housing, transportation, and other costs associated with trips to engage with industry or government partners to launch new collaborations and research projects.
COVID Information Commons PI Survey

The COVID Information Commons (CIC) invites all NSF and NIH PIs who have received COVID-19 related funding to update the public information about their award via a voluntary survey. All updates will be reflected in the CIC PI Database.
