Dance me to the end of Love (Life)

This Leonard Cohen song waltzed through my mind and hands this week as I crocheted a shawl for my Aunt Jan. Corner to Corner. Chain 6, Double Crochet into 4th chain, DC into 5th and 6th chain, slip stitch into space of previous 3rd DC, Chain 3. 1,2,3. 1,2,3. 1,2,3.

I danced with the wool and allowed the flow of love and memories of my Aunt to move through me. She was there when the water broke just before my birth, making sure my mother was doing the right things. Ever since she has been an inspiration and support throughout my life.

As I danced, I thought of how she had never been a “good girl” she has been just good. Good to her family, friends, community and the world. She is 82 this week and I am 65. This last year she has learned to walk again after a fall and break. Surrounded by her kids and grandchildren this birthday we talked via phone about how she could continue to be of service. Sitting in her local library reading to kids could be her next project.

I don’t crochet often or that well but I have figured out the Corner to Corner Shawl. It would seem that I like to waltz. Happy Birthday Aunt Jan.

"Dance Me To The End Of Love" ~ Leonard Cohen Lrics

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand, touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
