Creating Spaces of Authenticity to Enhance Belonging Among Equity-Seeking Faculty at PWIs
Presenters will actively address the importance of being identity-conscious, the role identities play in how we show up, and how we create spaces for people to do the same in predominantly white institutions (PWIs). Learn strategies for promoting authenticity across faculty and how we, as faculty, become individually accountable in this process.
Need to calm a combative conversation? Consider the method of being Brief, Informative, Friendly, and Firm (BIFF); the High Conflict Institute’s highly effective method of responding to difficult people, personal attacks, hostile emails, and meltdowns. Ombuds will introduce this approach and provide an opportunity to practice!

Gathering: Challenges and Possibilities for Women in Leadership at CU
Academic literature exploring women in leadership positions in higher education finds there are obstacles for women in obtaining leadership positions, as evidenced by the number of women leaders in senior administrative positions relative to their presence in academia, gender pay differentials, and a host of other glass ceilings. There are ways to address these challenges, some of which we will speak to at this inaugural gathering of women leaders.
Onboarding is a continuous process; we support tenure- and instructor-track faculty during their first 3 years at CU Boulder with this series available in-person and via Zoom:
Thriving in Community II: Faculty Relations and Governance will discuss the resources, supports and options available to faculty via the Boulder Faculty Assembly, Office of Faculty Affairs, and Faculty Ombuds.
Thriving in Wellness: Resources to Support You will discuss resources to support mental health and well-being, work-life balance, and maintaining wellness as a CU faculty member.
These grants provide funding for projects that will assist in advancing the careers of Associate Professors. Multiple grants will be awarded in amounts up to $12,000 each.
Explore the importance of developing a public-facing professional presence on campus and online to highlight your unique accomplishments and current projects. Panelists explain their motivations for and experience with developing a professional profile, how their efforts to raise their profiles have changed at different stages in their careers, and offer suggestions for participants.

This workshop focuses on the importance of effectively balancing your teaching, clinical, service, and research responsibilities with the demands and needs of your personal life. We explore ways to achieve greater work/life balance to promote your mental health wellness in order to sustain a successful career at CU.
