"This has been one of my favorite Champagne sources for many years." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Philipponnat is unequivocally one of the greatest Champagne houses. The hallmark of their wines is the ability to harness the power and fruit of Pinot Noir, while maintaining a balance of freshness and complexity. Bright aromatics are a common thread, while the structure of their wines is derived from a perfect combination of minerality and freshness.

We could not resist the pricing on these two favorite bottlings we are offering from Philipponnat: the Extra Brut Cuvee 1522 2015, a prestige cuvée blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from top vineyards, and the Brut Royale Reserve NV, a non-vintage wine aged for 3 years en tirage. These wines are a testament to the exceptional terroir of the Montagne de Reims.

"This is a house that is doing everything right, and under Charles Philipponnat and his chef de cave Thierry Garnier, the quality has increased exponentially. The wines today are increasingly more focused and pure, with more vinosity and complexity, and this is amplified further by their judiciously balanced dosages. Philipponnat is a house that combines outstanding technical quality with a strong identity and a clear vision of its purpose, and all of this is reflected in the wines." -  Peter Liem, Champagne Guide

Philipponnat Extra Brut Cuvee 1522 2015
24 bottles available
$99 per bottle
91 points Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2015 Extra-Brut Cuvée 1522 is laced with hints of white flowers, mint, dried herbs and light tropical notes. There’s good depth and intensity in the fruit, but also some coarseness in the texture, which suggests variability in ripening, plus perhaps some touches of tannin from the fruit and oak fermentation, which is about 58% for this release. I would prefer to drink the 1522 at the dinner table, where some of that textural intensity will be an asset. Most of this fruit comes from estate vineyards in Aÿ, plus dollops of Pinot Noir from Mailly and Chardonnay from Verzy. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: February, 2022. (Drink between 2022-2030)”

Philipponnat Brut Royale Reserve NV
21 bottles available
$49 per bottle
92 points John Gilman, View From the Cellar: "The current release of Philipponnat “Royal Réserve” non-vintage Brut is from the base year of 2015 and the wine was disgorged in June of 2019 and finished with a dosage of eight grams per liter. As is customary, the cépages here is sixty-five percent pinot noir, thirty percent chardonnay and five percent pinot meunier, with around twenty-five percent of the blend made up of reserve wines from the solera system the maison has started in the last decade. The wine offers up a refined bouquet of white peach, apple, fresh-baked bread, chalky soil tones, a touch of hazelnut and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a fine core, elegant mousse, bright acids and fine length and grip on the very well-balanced finish. As I have noted for the last few years, amongst the Grandes Marques these days, Philipponnat’s non-vintage Brut is now consistently one of the finest made! (Drink between 2020-2040)”
