Happy Mentoring Month, SWE GGS Members!

January is National Mentoring Month, which makes it the perfect time to mentor someone. Luckily, UCB SWE is on the lookout for mentors. In other news, SWE-GGS Scholarship Program for this year is now open. We are also seeking nominations to celebrate Engineers Week next month. Finally, Charm Industrial is hosting an open house and happy hour.

Below is a summary of what is going on with SWE GGS:  



SWE-GGS Scholarship Program 2023


The SWE GGS Scholarship Program awards scholarships to a number of Bay Area students who plan to attend a 4-year university to pursue a degree in engineering or computer science.

To be eligible for a SWE GGS scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Current high school senior or community college student planning to pursue a degree in engineering or computer science from an accredited university
  • Identifies as a woman or other underrepresented gender including non-binary and gender non-conforming
  • Lives or attends school in the boundaries of the Golden Gate Section

SWE-GGS x UC Berkeley SWE Mentorship Program


Are you interested in being a mentor to collegiate students? Apply to be a mentor for the UC Berkeley SWE x Golden Gate Section SWE Mentorship Program! During this program, you will be paired up with a mentee and have the opportunity to provide relevant professional guidance to your mentee. This program will include monthly virtual meet-ups between you and your mentee, as well as the option to attend in-person events for all program participants.

The time commitment is flexible, but it is suggested that you meet with your mentee virtually for at least 30 minutes each month, from February 2023 to April 2023. If you are interested, please fill out the form by Wednesday, February 8th. If you have any questions, please reach out to Allison at .


 



Nominations for National Engineers Week


National Engineers Week is from February 19 to February 25, with this year's theme being 'Creating the Future!'. We would like to honor achievements for those that identify as a woman or other underrepresented gender including non-binary and gender non-conforming. Nominate that incredible peer of yours that is solving challenges and making the world a better place! Selected profiles will be featured on our social media platforms.



Charm Open House and Happy Hour


Charm Industrial, a Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) company based in San Francisco, is hosting a tour of their Minifactory and a happy hour on February 28. You can find more details about the event here.
