Who's spinning this weekend?

Thursday (26.01) - Live music tonight: Chris Cavacas Band plays a set of his original songs. Chris has been a touring musician for the past 3 decades, starting as a member of Green on Red, a hugely influential American rock back formed in the Arizona desert before absconding to Hollywood for most of the 1980s. 20:00 - 22:00.

Friday (27.01) - DJ Johannes Fleck reels off all the Eel classics. Expect snake jazz, more snake jazz and mostly snake jazz, but also Steely Dan, Rupert Holmes, Bill Withers, Sade, Grace Jones, The Meters, Curtis Mayfield and whatever else. Probably some achingly cheesy 80s stuff that's actually pretty dope. 19:00 - 22:00.

Saturday (28.01) - DJ Enkidu invites you on a trip from mother Africa to the Sahara, dropping in on Damascus and spicy Cairo, then blasting across the globe to Latin America. 19:00 - 22:00.

Now hiring bartenders & servers!

We are looking for a few good people! Experience is always great, but it's not everything. So, if you're interested in learning how to make drinks and would like to start making your creations, send us an email. If you're passionate about hospitality and working in a creative environment where your opinion matters, this is your place. The work is hard, the fun is big and the team looks out for eachother. Send us an email today and we'll send you back an application!

TONIGHT: Chris Cacavas Band

Chris Cacavas is like the 5th Beatle around here. He's there for us when we are short of staff, so he's out delivering drinks and taking orders. He's there for us when we need a wall removed and another painted. He's there for us when we need a DJ, because his knowledge is vast and his taste is impeccable. And he's also there for us when we want to hear some great songs, because he has plenty. And this time, we get to hear them with the full compliment of his crunchy rock outfit, the Chris Cacavas Band. We don't really deserve him, but we'll take him. Come check out his set tonight and get on board with the cult of Cacavas!

Cocktail Close-Up: Old Soul

The cocktail: Hannes Schmitt's bold & spicy distillation of our friend and colleague, Chris Cacavas. Obviously, not his literal distillation, because that would be very weird, but let's call it an homage, as all of these drinks are to the DJs who regularly spin at the Eel. Old Soul is a delicious and curious combination of blanco tequila, saffron, kurkuma, orange, carrot, chili, and topped with sparkling water.

The SoundCloud in Chris' words: "This set represents a glimpse into my vinyl collecting journey that started in the 1970s about 90 minutes North of the Mexican border in Tucson, Arizona. At that time, I was collecting almost exclusively punk and new wave LP’s and singles. Along the way, I discovered disco, funk and soul and these genres have since consumed my passion for what I collect and play in my DJ sets. Although I am a fan of some current bands creating music in these genres, my collection is almost exclusively “vintage” and the bulk of these records were picked up at thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales. I still scavenge and “dig in the crates” every chance I get and will continue to look for deep cut buried treasures until the day I die - Dig!"

CCC: Starting Thursday, March 16th!

The Commodore's Cocktail Cinema, in cooperation with our friends from Kinemathek Karlsruhe e.V., is back for another season on Thursday, March 16th and will reprise the event every other Thursday! The film schedule will be released soon, as well as our first trailer! Things are getting professional! Sort of.

Happy hour everyday

Mi – Fr: 17:00 – 19:00
Sa + So: 15:00 – 18:00

At first we were like, yeah, happy hour! Then after a while we're like, nah. But once again we're like, yeah!

Our happy hour specials can be found here or here, which are links that both lead to the same place. See you soon.

Do you want to DJ at the Eel?

Have a thing for analog? Think you have a pretty good taste in music? Submit a MixCloud or whatever to us at Electric Eel and maybe you can DJ here, too! We're looking to add some girls to our roster of DJs, which is pretty dudecentric on the whole - a bit of a sausage fest, I must say... But what matters most is the music! So no matter who you are, no matter your pronouns, if you're interested in playing at the Eel because you enjoy it and want to be a part of what's happening here, send us an email.
