Dear parents

We have had confirmed cases of Covid in school again this week.  Whilst I am sure everyone is being mindful and vigilant, please continue to look for the possible signs/symptoms and test where possible.  If a member of staff gets Covid, it means a minimum of 5 days absence for us, which obviously has a knock on effect in practical and monetary terms.

May I also give a friendly reminder that children need to be booked into Breakfast Club at least 48 hours in advance.  Whilst we appreciate there maybe late bookings, due to unexpected situations, please don't just send your children to Breakfast Club without us knowing in advance.  Our staffing levels are based on the children booked into each session.  Thank you for your understanding and support.

Please don't forget that due to the national Teacher Strike Action on Wednesday 1st February school will be closed to all pupils.

In the classroom this week!

We have had another fantastic week in Puffins!  We have carried on with our story 'We're going on a bear hunt' and the Reception children all had a go at writing a word or sentence about this story.   In Maths we have been learning all about mass, comparing weight using language such as lighter, heavier, lightest, heaviest.   We have new learning in phonics: th, th, ng and tricky words 'you' and 'they'. In our Art we have been creating patterns in paints - we love getting messy!  In our R.E we learnt the Bible story 'The good Samaritan' and in P.E we have been using lots of gymnastic equipment. On Friday we enjoyed going on a Winnie the Pooh adventure in forest school.

Well done for a brilliant week Puffins.

Team Puffin

What a busy week!  Year 1 have worked hard to use adjectives to create a book about Paddington Bear in the style of 'That's not my bear'.  We enjoyed sharing our books with the Kingfishers and Owls class.  In Maths, we have been using Numberlines and Bar Models to work with numbers to 20.

Year 2 have worked very hard to write their Paddington stories.  They have done a great job!  In Maths, we have continued to practice addition and subtraction strategies, and have been applying this knowledge to bar models.  Once again they have worked very hard and some real progress has been made.
In RE, we are continuing with our unit on 'What made Jesus special?' and have learnt more stories about Jesus and the miracles he performed.  This week we looked at the story of Jesus turning water into wine and made our own water jars using clay!

Our classroom is now full of amazing sculptures as we worked to create our own UK landmarks.  Next week we will be decorating them before sharing them with you.  We do not need any more junk modelling materials - thank you to all who sent them in!  In computing we have been learning about the internet.  We learnt what the internet is, about the world wide web, browsers and websites.  We have also planted some daffodil bulbs, as we learnt a bit more about Wales.
Thank you for joining us for our class worship - we enjoyed sharing our message with you! Mrs James and Mrs Whitaker

Thank you to Mrs Hamer for being Mrs Burgess this week.  Get well soon Mrs Burgess!

Thank you Owls for making this week's supply teacher so welcome.  She was very impressed with you all and loved her time with you.  Get well soon Mr Pedder.
Continuing Support for our friends at school in Kenya To continue our support and fundraising for our friends in Kisumu, Kenya, Mr Hanmer and Daniel will be having a 'pop up' pizzeria on Thursday playtimes for the next four weeks.

Please bring in 50p if you would like to buy a slice of pizza, thank you!

Mrs Burgess.
School Choir

We are pleased to share that the KS2 choir has recommenced and takes place after school from 3:30 - 4 pm on Mondays.

Eco Balloon Race

The eco balloon race is back!

We have joined in with the Valentines Race and instead of real balloons, which leave debris littering the planet, the eco race is a clever way to have lots of fun without an environmental impact. Balloons cost £3 each and you can choose the shape, colour and how much helium you want to put in it, and then it joins the race which starts on the 14th February and lasts for 7 days.  After ‘launch’ the balloons follow the actual weather patterns of the week and whoever travels furthest wins a prize.  You can follow your balloons on the map as the race progresses. There is a grand prize overall for the winner from all of the various charity’s balloons in the race, but this year we are also going to give out a prize to our own school winner whose balloon travels the furthest - a £30 Amazon Voucher. So show the school some love by buying a Valentine’s balloon and please spread the word and try to convince all your friends and family to join in too so we can raise as much as possible.

Date for Your Diary - Table Top Sale

We are planning a Table Top Sale for Saturday 22nd April - more details will follow.
Tables will be £10 and you can reserve one now by emailing ellefox@mac.com to put your name down. You can use it to sell second hand items, or if you have your own shop or make things then you can sell home made crafts etc. (Please no cake stands though as the PTFA will be selling refreshments on the day too.)  Reserve your table now - and if you are able to make us some cakes to sell to raise extra funds on the day then that would also be brilliant.
PTFA Secretary

We still reaaaaaaalllllly need a new PTFA Secretary - if you think you would like to join in and take on this role it would be brilliant!  It involves mainly emailing out agendas and typing up some minutes and then not a huge amount else - as much or as little as you can fit in.
Just let Elle or Claire know by nabbing one of us in the playground if you’d like to try it out!
Get on our PTFA WhatsApp group

If you would like to keep up with what we are organising and get involved then join our WhatsApp group. Just send Elle a text with your phone number on it to 07739 805796 - and then after handing her phone to a more tech savvy 8 year old you will be added to the group!!!

Treasurer’s Report - 16th January 2023

Last four weeks of last term was a whirlwind.

Invoice in for IQ cards - £699.20 - so we made £160.89

Transport contribution to school - paid £908.31
Santa trip - Puffins
Knowsley Robins
Vindolanda residential - Kingfishers
Imperial War Museum - Owls
LionKing, Manchester - Whole school

Invoice for work to the Garage and the installation of the Nursery/SEN shed - £3,127.73
Slightly more than I was hoping but we put down a full concrete base and edging so more materials than we had thought.

Christmas Fair - made a profit of £457.70
Massive thank you to Tarryn and Lacey as their stand made over £150 on it’s own! Have quite a few grotto gifts leftover which I tried to sell off to various local PTAs / clubs and even got attempted FB Marketplace scammed too! Gave up and put them into storage. Means we will spend a bit less next year plus we can buy them earlier in the year too if we see some good toy offers.

Christmas Fair Raffle - sold 792 tickets - after paypal fees and the Jumblebee fees that’s £749.69 This goes into our pot to finish the Nursery / SEN shed.

Nativity - used up spare mince pies and mulled wine from Fair and so costs very low indeed. That made £55.50 on refreshments and £98.90 on the raffle.

Secret Santa Shop - I spent £149.27 on all the materials to put together the various options and we made £127.02.

Puffins Santa Trip toys - spent £98.20 on the 14 toys which was good value.

Parentkind membership has renewed for 2023 - gone up to £100 from £72. Quite a hike.  But as it covers all our insurances it is necessary. Just a bit of an increase that annoyed me.

Other income / expenditure - Bought a cable for Mrs Muckalt to make her green screen / sound setup at nativity work - £9.99  Also bought Mrs Muckalt a green screen suit - £24.99

Wombling Day Food - £24,30 - a committed turnout made it really tidy for the Fair the following week.   Just 2 or 3 more people would have really got the last tasks completed.

Christmas Crackers for school Christmas lunch - £26.91
Christmas Party Food - £19.76 - was cancelled so Claire has all this still to use at something.

Virgin Money have started paying us interest on our current accounts so we have had about £4 in

The cancelled film night created a fun hour of organising everyone’s refunds but I’m hoping I did not miss anyone that paid on paypal or via cash.

Secondhand uniform - I still need to check in with Rosie that all is up to date there.

Current Balances

Current Account - £ 6,208.73 but shed/garage cheque has not cleared yet so will have… £3,081.00 after that goes out

Cash held - £203.18 plus holding tuck shop float of £30

Paypal a/c - £ 521.86

EcoPod Savings account - £ 1,681.42

Expenses to come in

We have agreed to pay £10.75 per child for Puffins Beatrix Potter Trip - should be £172

Trying to get an electrician organised for SEN/Nursery shed and then we can finish off the interior and get it in use.
