We are eager to share our 2022 impact numbers, which will be tabulated following the shipment of our 12th container to Uganda. In the meantime, let's quickly revisit our 2021 Impact Report as a measurement and testament to our continued growth and expansion of literacy. In 2021, 276 Book Drives were completed by 217 different individuals and groups. Those drives created 276 libraries of six different types across six African countries. Per the beneficiary's library applications, these new libraries reach a total population of 350,093 young pupils.

Is Your Heart an Open Book?

Valentine's Day is two days away! This year, send your Valentine who shares your love for literacy an ALP e-Valentine. To send, make an online donation to ALP and select 'Dedicate my donation in honor or in memory of someone,' fill in their contact information, and choose one of the four e-Valentine options to send. Your donation will go towards covering the cost of shipping books.
In 2022 there was a ~10% rate increase in domestic media mail shipping costs. This rate increase has influenced a decrease in volunteers signing up to do book drives. Thus, donations to ALP at this time will be directed toward covering the shipping of libraries to help provide as many approved library applicants with a small library in by the end of 2023.
Plus, our e-Valentine card options will make any book lover blush.

Early this week, Lesotho's 14th container was received and unloaded. There were 495 boxes containing 30 libraries of 32,662 Books! We don't need a crystal ball to predict that these boxes are about to make very deserving teacher-librarians and students very happy very soon.
Special thanks to Jobo and Venus for coordinating the container's receipt and the men who helped unload close to 500+ boxes.

Take a tour of the grounds and library of K.K. Kindergarten and Primary School guided by the school's Teacher-Librarian, Margret Mukuru. See where students play outside, and meet the students helped set up the library and will help Margaret manage the library for the school's 300+ students.

The 16th container to Botswana left at the end of December and will be received by the Botswana Ministry of Education and Skills Development (BMOESD) soon. Stay tuned for updates in next month's newsletter and follow us on social media for timely updates.

The 12th container to Ghana arrived in late October and has been unloaded. Distribution to libraries has begun and we will circulate photos and videos as they are received on our social media accounts.

We are active in South Africa once again through a new partnership with Lisika Unite Foundation. They are in the Limpopo Province, which is located in the northernmost province of South Africa. Limpopo is South Africa's second-poorest province, with more than 80% of its population living in under-resourced rural areas.
