News From the Nest

Families,

Happy Black History Month! We are celebrating and studying Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) at Bolton. For more than 150 years, HBCUs have been providing diverse learning environments , ensuring that every student has a chance to succeed.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Kindergarten - 5th-grade families, please be on the lookout for a Dojo message from your teacher later today with a sign-up for Parent Teacher Conferences. Please review the letter and then sign up using the link provided. We look forward to spending time with you and updating you on your scholar! Pre-K conferences will be held in May in accordance with the Office of Early Learning calendar.

Finally, I will be hosting a Principal Chat and Chew on Friday, February 17 at noon via Zoom. We will send out the login information closer to the date, but I hope you will grab your lunch and join me for some school updates!

Thank you!

College and Career Motivation Week

Parent Volunteer Opportunity

Thank you to all of our parents and community members who expressed interest in presenting during our College and Career Motivation Week. Please check your inbox for an email from Ms. Haley confirming your specific time slots. We were able to pair each parent with their child's homeroom class, and we really appreciate your willingness to speak to more than one class!

All classes will have two speakers, but we are hoping to have more. We have opened specific time slots by day and teacher for any additional parents who are interested in participating. The sign-up sheet can be found HERE. Please only type in the Speaker column. If you already see a name in that column, that time slot is filled.

We will host sessions on Wednesday, February 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (Pre-K, K, 1st, and 2nd graders) and Thursday, February 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (3rd, 4th, and 5th graders). Presentations should last between 20 and 25 minutes. We are asking for speakers to arrive at Bolton no later than 15 minutes before their first class.

Homecoming Week

Please join us by participating in our Black History Month Homecoming Week!

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

Congratulations to our Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team! They placed 4th out of over 40 APS elementary schools and 2nd in our cluster. We are so proud of you!

I Love Reading!

On Friday, February 10, we will celebrate our love of reading at Bolton Academy. All K-5th grade students will come to the gym during their specials for some fun! As a reminder, please encourage your children to read daily at home or take the time to read with them!

We need some parent volunteers to help make this event a success. If you are able, please sign up HERE. Thank you!

Valentine's Day

Since all students do not celebrate Valentine’s Day, we plan to celebrate caring and kindness on February 14. One of the IB Learner Profile attributes is CARING, and we want our students to know that caring doesn't just happen one day; it can happen every day! All students can participate in the sending and receiving of cards, but if you plan to participate please send in enough for every person in your class. Teachers may ask their room parents to assist with the activities, but we will not be hosting additional guests on this day. Thank you for your understanding!

Order Your Yearbook Today

We are excited to announce that in partnership with the PTA, Bolton Academy will have a yearbook this year! The yearbook will include your child’s individual photo and photos from some of our biggest events! You can pre-purchase your yearbook HERE. Yearbooks will have a hardcover and cost $30 until Thursday, March 2. All orders placed after March 2 will cost $35. All yearbooks will be distributed in May. We also plan to offer a limited number of pages for sale for 5th-grade congratulatory messages and local businesses. We will share more information about how to purchase these ads soon.

We look forward to starting this new Bolton tradition and hope you will support us!

Call for Art!

A Message from Ms. Sevier

We would love to feature student art during our Black History Program on February 28. This year, we are looking for portraits of the individuals that will be featured in the program. If your children would like to participate, please have them create their portrait on 9 x 12" paper. Any drawing/painting medium is welcome (pencil, colored pencil, marker, paint, collage, etc.). Please send me a message letting me know who your child will be drawing to ensure that we have a variety. All submissions will be due before Winter Break on February 17.

Coming Up!

Hello from your Bolton Academy PTA! Please be on the lookout for our March date at Public House 28!

Why PTA?

“This is the first year at Bolton for my kids. I joined the PTA as a way to continue a better school environment for my children. I am able to assist the other members with creating events that our kids will enjoy. Bolton is a diverse school that allows a wide range of activities and learning environments that will prove beneficial for my children’s future. Even in a small way, it allows me to participate in their education and learn more about their daily school lives.” - Brianna Daye | VP of Community Engagement Co-Elect

“My son started Pre-K at Bolton during the early part of Covid and virtual school, so I joined the PTA to feel connected and volunteer at the school. It’s now my third year here. I’ve enjoyed meeting new people, making new friends, and finally getting to help plan and attend school events. - Adrianne Barkell | VP of Teacher Support

If you're interested in learning more about the PTA and/or being part of our fun team, please fill out this google form or email your thoughts to  pta@boltonacademy.org
