Dear Parents and Carers,

Some parents have enquired whether Borrowdale School will be open on Wednesday 1st February and I am pleased to say that we are expecting and planning to be open for all pupils.

However, some caution is needed. I believe most of us do sympathise with the reasons for the teacher strike and although our teachers have indicated that on this occasion they intend not to strike, they are allowed to change their minds. It is also no guarantee for any future strike days.

Of course we will let you know at the earliest possible time if we know of any changes to the above.

Young Voices

We are really excited to be taking the Young Voices club to their Young Voices Concert in the AoArena in Manchester next Wednesday. We will be going with 11 children who will be accompanied by Mr Smits and Mrs Dixon. We will use one of our school’s minibuses (‘Mrs Dixon’s bus’) and Mrs Dixon and Mr Smits will share the driving. The plan is to come to school as normal, and then we’ll be setting off for Manchester as soon as we’re ready to go.

The plan:
9am Set off from school
11.30 Arrive at the carpark and visit nearby National Football Museum (if there is enough time.)
1.30pm Arrive at the Arena (lunch)
2pm-5pm Rehearsals
(packed dinner)
7pm-8.45pm Young Voices Concert
11.30pm (estimate) return to Keswick – Rawnsley Centre

If it helps, YV pupils will be allowed a late start on Thursday 2nd February but only if parents can transport them to school.

What to bring:
  • Drawstring bag to put the items in – please let me know if you don’t have one, I’m sure we’d be able to find one in school somewhere.
  • Drinks and snacks for the two long journeys – please don’t send sugary, fizzy, messy stuff, this will only cause problems! A refillable water bottle is the best. We will have at least one stop on each journey to swap drivers and go to the toilet, but we really don’t want to stop at every motorway station.
  • Packed lunch and packed supper.
  • Young Voices T-Shirt/ Plain white T-shirt -> provided by school on Tuesday. (We’ll give the children their YV torches just before the concert on Wednesday.)
  • Comfortable shoes and clothes, suitable for the weather and suitable for a long day!
  • Games (top trumps?) for the journeys

What not to bring:
  • Anything valuable, electronic or precious!

Any questions, please ask!

Running Club

On Wednesday 1st February, running club will go ahead as usual - Ms Hall has offered to drive the bus at 3pm and again at 4pm so the club can go ahead even though Mrs Dixon will be in Manchester.
