The 2023 Tax Filing Season is Open!
January 31 - April 15
VITA  - Gerry Hyland Government Center/Access Fairfax

If you or your family earned less than $60,000 in 2022, you may qualify for free, in-person tax filing assistance through VITA beginning on January 31 at one of 4 Northern Virginia locations: Alexandria, Annandale, Herndon and Reston.

Walk-ins are welcome, no appointments are needed.

DOING YOUR OWN TAXES
In partnership with  Legal Services of Northern Virginia, the Financial Empowerment Center SoCo will offer tax classes to clients interested in preparing their tax returns but who don't know where to start. These classes will give an overview of the basic information needed to prepare your tax return and access the IRS Free File Program. For more information please see the flyer below. DOCUMENT CHECKLIST FOR  FILING YOUR TAXES

Being prepared for filing your taxes takes organization. Here is a list of some of the documents and items you will need to have before starting.
  • Your social security number or tax ID number
  • Your spouse's full name, social security number or tax ID number, and date of birth
  • Bank account number and routing number for direct deposit
  • W-2 Forms
  • Unemployment form (1099-G)
  • Dependent(s) dates of birth and social security numbers or tax ID numbers

AWS re/Start Training Program 

Next Cohort:  March 13, 2023 - June 16, 2023

AWS re/Start is a FREE, full-time skill development program to jump-start your career working in cloud computing. You will learn cloud computing skills and prepare for AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification. A technology background is not required to apply and the program is focused on unemployed and underemployed individuals.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Northern Virginia resident
  • Intermediate English proficiency
  • Basic computer skills
  • Desktop computer or laptop (limited computers available to borrow)
  • Responsible and committed to logging into class virtually on time, attending every class, being visible, having a positive attitude, and fully participating
