Upcoming Workshop: Burn with Benefits

Are you curious about utilizing burns on your property as beneficial use? Biochar has caught the attention of farmers, ranchers, and forest management officials all over the country. This workshop series is a chance to work with an expert in the field.

An online discussion and informational webinar will be held on Thursday, March 2 from  6 PM to 7:30; then a live demonstration will occur on Saturday, March 11 from 9:30 AM to 3 PM at Pine Meadow Ranch in Sisters. Attendees will learn how to set up and conduct burns with and without kilns, the appropriate size of kiln for each use, and how to turn biomass into biochar at any scale.

Small Farms Mean Business Rally Day

Farmers, ranchers, and local food system advocates from across Oregon will come together on Sunday, March 5th in Eugene at the Lane County Farmers Market Pavillon for our sixth biennial Friends of Family Farmers 'Small Farms Mean Business' Day. Come hear from legislators, farmers and other stakeholders to learn about the details of our two proposed bills and other coalition bills we are supporting so you can take the issues you care about directly to decision makers. TIPS AND TRICKS

Resource Highlight: This is Real Food

Developed by Boundless Farmstead's Megan Kellner-Rhode, This Is Real Food is a resource intended to educate consumers about the realities of growing produce.

Straight from the farmer: "For the longest time, I have had this idea for a poster/infographic campaign that helps customers identify common issues, afflictions, and ailments of vegetables, why those things happen, and why they should still buy them or still support the farm. And finally it came to fruition! My thoughts are the more educated people are, the more compassion and understanding they have for the farmers, the more they are willing to buy produce that is not commercially 'perfect.'"

The intention is for these to be open-sourced and free to use, whether that be as a CSA handout, laminated at a farmstand, or more. Please feel free to reach out to Megan at Boundless Farmstead with any questions or suggestions. HDFFA hopes to have some of these laminated or created into a booklet for our tabling at markets and other events.
