Sunday Adult Formation:
Living as a ‘Called Out’ People
The Greek word “ekklēsia” in the New Testament, usually translated as “church,” literally means “called out.” It refers to Jesus-people as ones who are called to live in a way that is not just “business as usual” by society’s normal standards. They’re called to make a difference!
This Sunday: "St. Thomas Music Memories"
As we "Celebrate St. Thomas Music," Sunday Adult Formation meets this week in the Choir Room (at the end of the hall between the Nave and the Chapel), rather than the Library. We will share the difference music makes in the life and ministry of St. Thomas Church. There will be no Zoom option this week.
Feb 5: St. Thomas Annual Parish Meeting (in the Parish Hall)
Feb 12 & 19: “ Overcoming the Harmful Effects of Purity Culture”
Purity Culture is a deeply embedded structure within our society, impacting marriage, dating, sexuality, racial identity & racism, religious sectarianism, as well as political identity and government policy-making. It began as a concerted reaction against movements promoting civil rights, gender equality, reproductive rights, and LGBTQ+ rights. In this 2-week series, Joanna & Evan Collins (doctoral candidates in counseling) will describe Purity Culture's harmful impact in our society, discuss the opportunity we, as change agents, have to offer safety and care to those who have suffered from its oppressive effects..

A Prayer of Howard Thurman
The Peace of God, which passes all understanding,
shall guard my heart and my thoughts.
Into God's keeping do I yield my heart and
thoughts, yea, my life –
with its strength and weakness
its failure and success,
its shame and its purity.
O Peace of God, settle over me and within me
so that I cannot tell mine from thine
and thine from mine."
— Howard Thurman in Sermons on the Parables
