This week was particularly busy, but we're finally getting to the level of busy I prefer. Some highlights include a visit by a Washington Post reporter who came to observe me doing my work for three days. This profile should be done in a couple weeks, so stay tuned for that!

I recently joined the board of a Jewish based non-profit called A Wider Bridge. This organization helps bridge US based leaders in the LGBTQ community with similar leaders in Israel to share ideas and support each other in advancing the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Lunar New Year guests from the AAPI community pose with legislators at the Speaker's podium. Monday we had some special guests, hosted by Reps Gonzalez Gutierrez and Soper for the Lunar New Year. We all are saddened by the attack on the event in California just days prior. We stand with the AAPI community.

Reps Parenti, Titone, Epps, Vigil, and Dickson with Senators Jaquez Lewis and Ginal in the Governors office with the Governor. The Governor met with the LGBTQ Caucus to hear about our legislative priorities. It was nice to be able to share ideas on where we see the future of our community by working together.

Tuesday morning, I hosted Capitol Coffee Talk and was joined by several constituents. Thank you for coming out for a coffee and chat about what's happening at the Capitol.

Rep Willford and Rep Titone presenting their bill in the Legislative Services Building. My first bill was heard in committee and on the way to the COW. This is the C-PACE bill I ran with Rep Willford (her very first bill) which will help commercial property owners build resiliency in their buildings to help fight climate change and save on energy costs.

Last night, I was spending time with my friends at Hunger Free Golden. They hosted a community engagement event to work on trying to tackle the difficulties of feeding people, such as transportation issues and stigma.

Students visiting from metro area colleges posing with Rep Titone at the Capitol. Today, I visited with groups of college students visiting from Mines, Front Range, CSU-Pueblo, DU, CU Boulder. We had a nice conversation and they asked questions about our work at the legislature. They also asked they can get involved with some topics they are passionate about. It's great seeing young people visit the People's House!

Rep Weissman speaks fo the memorial of Minority Leader McKean on the House Floor. This morning, we also remembered Minority Leader Hugh McKean. There were many heart warming and funny stories remembering a beloved and respected colleague. I have to say, I have taken note at how he presented himself and have thought a lot about what I do and how I can do better. He was a true statesman and a role model for all of us. Tell someone you love them.

Meet the Staff

Every session there are new staff in the office. This year I'm so proud to have one returning aide, one new aide and two graduate school interns. I love working with these brilliant women, so I wanted you to get to know them, too!

Abby Gardner (she/her/hers)
Hi! My name is Abby, and I'm an intern in Representative Titone’s office this year. I am a second year Master's in Social Work student at University of Denver studying organizational leadership and policy practice. I'm passionate about women’s rights, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ issues. In my free time I love trying new Colorado breweries, running, hanging out with my cat, and knitting!

Emily Jacobs (she/her/ella)
Hi! My name is Emily, and I am currently a second year at the University of Denver working on my Master's in Social Work. My focus is on Ecological Justice and Policy, so I'm lucky to intern with Rep. Titone! I am passionate about conservation, women's rights, animal rights, and ecological justice. When I'm not at the capitol, on campus, or at my job, I do puzzles, visit plant nurseries, or snuggle with my pup Finn.

Jocelyn Westray (she/her/they/them)
Hey friends! I'm a Colorado transplant from Northern Virginia, and a recent graduate from Georgetown Law. Working with Representative Titone has been an excellent experience, especially since my interest areas include reproductive justice and LGBTQ+ health law and policy. As a part-time Legislative Aide, I keep Brianna's schedule on track and help develop policy in coordination with my amazing Senior Legislative Aide, Michelle. In my free time, I'm a singer-songwriter, knitter, and dog mom to the best girl ever, Gemma.

Michelle Zajic (she/they)
Hi folks! I'm starting my fifth session working with the Representative as a Legislative Aide and it feels new every year. When I'm not helping constituents solve problems or managing the office, you can find me at home cooking, gardening or finding all sorts of fun home projects to do with my partner, Jason. I'm also a sailor, scuba diver and doting dog mom to Miles and Maisie.

Helping Our State's Farmers

HB23-1011 "Consumer Right To Repair Agricultural Equipment"
In Agriculture, Water & Natural Resources Committee on February 6, 1:30p

My next bill to be heard in committee is centered on helping our agriculture industry maintain efficiency and save farmers money in the long term. The computerization of farm equipment over the years has forced farmers to use manufacturers' service technicians to do even the simplest of repairs or part replacements due to software locks, or a lack of specialized tools or service manuals. Gone are the days of scrappy farmers fixing their machines on the fly. This bill will require manufacturers to provide, at reasonable cost, the items needed to repair the equipment these hard-working farmers already own.

With over 38,000 farmers and ranchers in Colorado, this bill will help keep one of the nation's most productive agriculture industries moving nimbly through tight production schedules with a minimum of down time from equipment maintenance or failure.

The bill is proudly bi-partisan with my Republican colleague, Representative Ron Weinberg (Loveland), helping me usher it through the House.

ARVADA
The Annual Chocolate Affair

Come to Olde Town Arvada on Saturday, February 4th, from 11 am to 1 pm to eat delicious chocolate-based food and drinks at $1 per taste. All proceeds benefit the Ralston House Child Advocacy Center. For more information, visit ralstonhouse.org/a-chocolate-affair.

A Friendly Neighbor Reminder!

Arvada Municipal Code requires snow removal from sidewalks within 24 hours after the snowfall. Please remember to shovel snow into your yard instead of the street because it provides moisture to the yard. Rather than shoveling into the street, this causes ice to build up on the road, making it hazardous. Stay warm and safe during this winter season!
