Proposed 2023-2024 District Calendar

The school district has been working on the district calendar for the next school year. Below is a link to view the proposed district calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.

For the first time in several years, the district does not have any construction in our four school buildings. We thought this would be a great opportunity to review and reevaluate our current calendar, along with making any necessary changes. The school district began the process by sending out a survey to parents, staff and community members. Over 600 people completed the survey, with 68% being parents and 27% being staff members. The survey included questions about the first day of school, Thanksgiving break, winter break and spring break. The calendar committee used the survey results to draft the proposed calendar. Any changes to the calendar are based on results and feedback from the survey. The committee took into consideration a variety of factors, including instructional time for students, the professional learning needs of our staff, along with family and community priorities. Below are the proposed changes for the 2023-2024 district calendar.

Changes in the proposed district calendar for the 2023-2024 school year:

  • The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 29th, 2023.
  • There will be no school on Friday, September 1st and Monday, September 4th, which creates a four day Labor Day holiday weekend.
  • There will be a gradual start of the new school year for students: three days of school the first week, four days the second week and five days the third week of school.
  • The Teacher Professional Development Day for the month of October is moved to Monday, October 16th.
  • Parent-Teacher conferences for all four schools will be on November 9th and 10th.
  • The Teacher Professional Development Day for the month of November is moved up one week to Friday, November 10th.
  • The end of 1st semester and high school finals will be before the winter break on Wednesday, December 20th.
  • Winter break will be from December 21st-January 2nd. Two additional days were added to extend the winter break to 13 days off.
  • There will be no school on Monday, April 22nd.
  • The anticipated last day of school will be on Thursday, May 23rd, with early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. that day.
  • Other than the last day of school, there are no other 12:30 p.m. early dismissal days on the calendar.

The proposed district calendar for the 2023-2024 school year will be presented to the Southern Boone Board of Education for approval during the Monday, February 13th board meeting.
