MISSOURI HOSA 2023 SLC QUALIFIER RESULTS WILL BE RELEASED FEBRUARY 1, 2023
The Missouri HOSA 2023 State Leadership Conference is scheduled for March 27-28, 2023 in Rolla, Missouri. The onsite event will be held at Rolla High School again this year.
 
Missouri HOSA hit record-breaking numbers with 1,640 participants from 83 Local Chapters registered for this year’s SLC Qualifier!  Tallo entries are being judged and the SLC Qualifier tests are open this week. The SLC Qualifier Results will be announced on February 1, 2023.
 
Registration for the onsite Missouri HOSA 2023 State Leadership Conference will open on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 and will close on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at midnight.  The Registration Fee for this event is $50.00 and will include two meals onsite.  Registration fees must be paid to Missouri HOSA, ATTN:  Shelly Wehmeyer, 5th Floor, P.O. Box 480, Jefferson City, MO 65102.  In order to register, participants will need to have met qualifications noted in the Missouri HOSA 2023 State Leadership Conference Event Agenda.  At least one (1) Local Chapter Advisor MUST be registered for the Missouri HOSA 2023 State Leadership Conference.  Additional Local Chapter Advisors and chaperones/guests who were not registered for the SLC Qualifier can also be registered for the onsite event, but will not receive a conference T-Shirt and Lapel Pin.      
 
All registered participants attending the Missouri HOSA 2023 State Leadership Conference will need a Medical Liability Release and Code of Conduct form on file at their local chapter.  In order to assure everyone completes these forms, please require all HOSA local chapter members to submit these forms to you with affiliation.
 
The Missouri HOSA Chapter Assurance Form and Missouri HOSA Local Chapter Advisor Code of Conduct is due by March 1, 2023.  These forms are the only documents needed at our office.  Please send this form to Rachel Fisher at Rachel.fisher@dese.mo.gov.  She may be reached at 573-751-7965.
 
Also below is the Missouri HOSA Local Chapter Advisor Code of Conduct form. This form is only for Local Chapter Advisors and needed to be signed and returned to Rachel Fisher at Rachel.fisher@dese.mo.gov by October 7, 2022.  Once on file, excluding the International Leadership Conference, this document will be utilized for all regional and statewide events.

National Geographic Learning Academic Testing Center
NEW this year, Missouri HOSA will be offering a National Geographic Learning Academic Testing Center to all onsite State Leadership Conference participants.  Each student member participant will have an opportunity to take one (1) exam of choice at the ATC Testing Center.  The ATC Testing Center will have open hours for participants to take the exam when available.  This is an added opportunity to be recognized at the Awards Session.  Those who place will NOT qualify to compete at the International Leadership Conference.  To review exam opportunities, go to https://hosa.org/guidelines/ and review the fourteen (14) exam options under the National Geographic Learning Academic Testing Center category. 
Special Talent Request
You probably have HOSA members with special talents in your Chapter and Missouri HOSA is searching for them!
 
Missouri HOSA is recruiting singers and performers for the Opening General Session of the State Leadership Conference on March 27, 2023. Missouri HOSA is looking for talented singers and performers to participate by singing either the National Anthem or another patriotic or inspirational song of choice. If you are interested, please send a YouTube link to Missouri HOSA. The deadline for entries is February 15, 2023.  If selected, the performer will sing/perform at the Opening General Session at the Missouri HOSA 2023 State Leadership Conference. You may email a link or questions to Shelly Wehmeyer, Missouri HOSA State Advisor, at Shelly.Wehmeyer@dese.mo.gov.  In the subject line, please write “MISSOURI HOSA 2023 SLC SPECIAL TALENT” and then attach the YouTube link within the email.  Please record both songs (National Anthem and Patriotic/Inspirational song of choice) if you wish to be considered for either opportunity.  Be sure the HOSA member includes: full name, school, local chapter advisor name, address and phone number.
HOSA Store
The HOSA Store will be open for business on Tuesday between the hours of 10:00 am – 3:30 pm.  Please see the price list below for full details.  The store will accept cash and credit card (with a minimum purchase of $15.00).  Prices range from $1.00 items to $45.00.  There is something for everyone, so please remind students of this opportunity!  The HOSA Store will also be located at HOSA Zone!
HOSA Zone
HOSA Zone is a one-stop shop for entertainment on Tuesday during the SLC!  HOSA Zone will be open during the hours of 10:00 am – 3:30 pm, and will be integrated with both Exhibitor Booths and State Officer Candidate booths.  There will be interactive games and activities happening all day!  If you have students who are not competing, this is where they will want to be!  Please encourage all student members to attend this event, as it will be a time to network, have fun, and learn! 

Student members will have an opportunity to earn tickets when visiting with Exhibitors at HOSA Zone for an hourly drawing of Missouri HOSA Swag Bags valued at $50.00 each. 
Trivia Night
Join us for the Inaugural HOSA Trivia Night on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 7:00 pm.  We will play five (5) rounds of trivia with ten (10) questions each based on medical trivia.  This will include a round on Movie Medicine, Anatomical lyrics, and Healthy Habits. Don't forget to sign up your team of four (4) to participate in this fun event!  Multiple teams per Local Chapter will be allowed. 
Educational Symposium
Educational Symposium Presentations will be scheduled on hourly rotations throughout the conference at Rolla High School.  All participants are strongly encouraged to attend these workshops on a variety of topics. 
Missouri HOSA Statewide Service Project
Please join us for the Missouri HOSA Blood Drive at Rolla High School on March 27-28, 2023. Appointments are strongly encouraged. Get a t-shirt! Eat tasty snacks! Save lives!  To schedule your appointment, call 417-227-5006 or click the link Monday Appointments   or Tuesday Appointments. Sixteen (16) year olds will need to provide a signed parental consent form in order to give blood onsite.

2023 STEM SIGNING DAY AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
Just like signing days for athletes, Missouri STEM Signing Day celebrates Missouri high school seniors as they make their commitments to study a STEM field at Missouri colleges and universities. This program recognizes outstanding Missouri high school students from across the state who are inspired by science, technology, engineering and math and are dedicated to pursuing a STEM career pathway in college and beyond.

Details
  • STEM Signing Day Celebration on April 28, 2023
  • A minimum of 25 students will receive a $1,000 scholarship to go towards their college costs
  • Students will sign a letter of intent to pursue a STEM degree program at a Missouri post-secondary institution
  • Students will be recognized for their STEM achievement by state officials, business leaders, coalition members and other special guests
 
Eligibility & Criteria
  • 2023 Missouri graduating high school students
  • Students interested in pursuing a STEM degree or certificate program at a Missouri 2-year, 4-year or technical college, Fall 2023
  • Applications will be evaluated on the basis of passion for STEM learning, advancing society through STEM, high school activity involvement and scholarship.  
  • Semifinalist will be asked to provide a 1-2 minute video on what inspires them to pursue a STEM pathway by April 1.
  • Application deadline is March 15, 2023

  • Design contests: Get your artists ready to show off their skills!

MAKE SURE YOUR CHAPTER IS REGISTERED 
If you haven’t already, make sure your chapter registered for the current 2022-2023 school year. To reset your annual chapter points to zero, you must register one chapter team page each school year. Follow these easy steps:
  1. Visit BeTheMatch.org/HOSAChapters and select REGISTER.
  2. If you registered a page in the past, log in to your account first. If you are new, create your account and continue to the next step.
  3. Select the one Participant Type that aligns with your role:

    Only ONE person per chapter can create a TEAM. Chapter members will JOIN the team.

STAHR SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Summer Enrichment Program Opportunity 
The STAHR Scholars Program provides rising high school juniors, seniors, undergraduates, post-baccalaureate, and non-traditional students from disadvantaged backgrounds with opportunities to learn more about and prepare to become a health professional. The Scholars Program aims to strengthen students’ interest in health careers and develop students into competitive applicants for health professional education programs. Through different program tracks, students can explore, experience, and prepare for a future career in health.

HOSA SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Leadership Initiatives is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that partners with outstanding high school students to provide them with hands-on experience that builds their ability to collaborate, communicate, and confidently pursue their futures. For the past four summers, Leadership Initiatives has partnered with amazing HOSA members to provide in-person and online internships in the field of medicine and neuroscience that enable students to begin their careers and explore their fields before even graduating high school.

Leadership Initiatives is currently seeking HOSA members to apply for the Drew C. Richardson Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will provide one HOSA member with a full tuition award for an online internship and one full tuition award for the in-person internship options, as well as five additional $1,500 scholarships and ten additional $1,250 scholarships that can be applied to a Leadership Initiatives Summer Internship.

If you are interested in attending the Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship or the Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship at Georgetown University this summer, please complete the Drew C. 2022-2023 AFFILIATION INFORMATION
The 2022-2023 Affiliation Packet can be found at HERE. As always, please feel free to also contact Shelly Wehmeyer at 573-751-3407 or shelly.wehmeyer@dese.mo.gov with any questions. If you have forgotten or misplaced your charter number/password or if you are new to the School District and do not have access, please feel free to reach out as well. The 2022-2023 International and Missouri affiliation dues are $15.00 total per member.  Please make sure that all contact information for Local Chapter Advisors is included.  Also assure that all members have paid their dues prior to affiliation, as your school district will be charged if affiliation is completed.  Affiliation fees should be sent to HOSA Headquarters, 548 Silicon Drive, #101, Southlake, TX 76092
