OUR MONTH IN A NUTSHELL

CROPS TO SHOPS 2.0

INDUSTRY NEWS
UK will soon be implementing the Environmental Land Management Schemes (ELMS) to replace the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy subsidies, paying farmers to transit and adapt to renewable, sustainable farming practices. It is critical that policies developed have to be backed by science, and do not derail what the private sector wants and become another profitable tool with no actual aim to protect nature and restore soil health.
The start of 2023 already provides us with tragic news. The United Arab Emirates recently appointed an oil executive to lead COP28 climate talks. This, of course, drew backlash from the public and all climate activists around the world including Greta Thunberg. A COP28 spokesperson defended the decision and said it was justified based on the executive’s founding of a renewable energy company. Such a decision showcases the ignorance and unwillingness of world leaders, setting a bad precedent for any talks in the future.
