Member Photos

Some of our PGOSA Activity Leaders and participants take photos of the many places they go, including members enjoying themselves. A few of these pictures get circulated to participants, and may end up on our website, the PGSOA Chronicle, or a blog that members can log into.

If you do not want photos of yourself publicized, please advise your Activity Leader and the membership team. We will do our best, but the submitted photos often do not include member names.
We will never publish member's identifying information such as names or contact information without permission.

Heart Month

February is Heart Month, a time to bring attention to the importance of cardiovascular health, and what all can do to reduce our risk of cardiovascular disease.

Heart disease affects approximately 2.4 million Canadian adults and is the second leading cause of death in Canada.

We can all reduce our risk of heart disease by making healthy lifestyle choices, including quitting smoking, eating a healthy and balanced diet, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy body weight, and monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Something we all can do is get active – whether it is water exercises or swimming at the pool, walking in our neighborhood, cycling, or participating in more active sports or recreational opportunities, there are opportunities through PGOSA or the local recreation department (RDN) to get moving. Your body, brain, and especially your heart will thank you and you will reduce the effects a sedentary lifestyle has on your cardio system.

As the PGOSA saying goes – “Get Active & Get Involved!”

Membership

Thanks to the many of you who have renewed your membership for 2023. We are now approaching 600 members which is well over half of last year’s final number and well on our way to reaching our annual goal of 1000 members. Not bad for the first month of the year!

We now slowly gain numbers over the course of the year as different activities start up and community members hear about PGOSA, get interested, and get involved. From sitting at the membership table, I would say “word of mouth” by existing members is our best public relations method. When participants talk highly to friends and neighbors about the good times they are having participating in PGOSA activities “word” spreads.

PLEASE NOTE – as membership needs slow down the table at Oceanside Place (arenas) will only be open twice a month on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:00 am – the first and third Wednesday mornings of the next three months:

Dates are: February 1st and 15th; March 1st and 15th; April 5th and 19th.

Mail in and online registration is open at all times so don’t despair – you can renew or new members can join anytime; one doesn’t have to wait for a Wednesday for the PGOSA table to be open.

Cards and other Games

Games Activity Expanding!
The games session held every two weeks at the Bradley Center is expanding- second and fourth Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 pm is offering MORE in hopes of growing the numbers who attend.

We now have the use of three table tennis tables so those who like to play ping pong can play at their own level – hopefully you can find a partner who hits and bounces that little ball to your liking.  We can now accommodate 6 singles players or 12 who would play doubles.  Come on out and give it a try!

Also, after a few requests we have found a Mahjong player who teaches this game to others.  All she asks is that you don’t quit after the first lesson as the game appears complicated, does involve “memory” and “stick-to-itiveness” to learn the moves.  If interested, join us next games session and find out what Mahjong is all about and if it's for you.

We are going to start a new card game this month – Canasta - so come on out and give it a go!  We have a member who will teach us the basics and get a group started.  New participants always welcome!

Usual games played are cards, mostly crib and Mexican Train.  Other games are welcome if you will teach others how to play!

Location: The Studio at the Bradley Center
Days: 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.
  • January 11th and 25th
  • February 8th and 22nd
  • March 8th and 22nd
  • April 12th and 26th.
Time: 1:30 to 3:30 pm
Fee: $2.00 drop in fee and membership at Bradley Center - $5.00 per year for an annual membership
No advance registration required.
Coffee and treats are served!
Questions, or for more information, contact Jim.
