Truth of the Week
Now it is Sunday again and time for a new Truth of the Week! Today is the 29th of January and we will therefore visit the year 1929. In January of 1929 the first part of the comic “Tintin in the Land of the Soviets” was published and the well-known character Tintin was born.
The Tintin comics follow a young journalist and his dog Snowy that frequently get thrown into mysteries and adventures. The creator Georges Remi was partly influenced by his younger brother Paul when creating the appearance and behavior of the character. Georges’s background in the boy scouts was also a great source of inspiration.
The comic is popular all over the world and in the homeland of the creator, Belgium, there are several statues and commemorative murals of Tintin. However, the comic has caused controversy because of racist and colonialist elements in the early comics.
