Recent press reports indicate a thawing of the current China-Australia wine spat. How long it takes for a de facto reunion and the lead time to get wines moving eastwards again is in the lap of the Gods, so for now - the massive discounting of premium aged wines continues...

1847 Church Vineyard Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2016 (WP 95) tells it like it is. Seriously aged wine with roots in turn-of-the mid-19th century history are amped up even further by the fact that this release has been slumbering sweetly in the cellars of historic Chateau Yaldara in the Barossa for another minimum three years extra before they found their way to us here in Singapore.

Anointed by Wine Pilot's Ken Gargett as a "cracker of a wine" - the pricing of this wine back in retail Australia is back up again at the prevailing cellar door price of A$60 - foretelling strong innate parochial demand and that ready stocks are now dwindling...

Wine Pilot 95 points.
"Cracking Rhone style blend but all Barossa in flavour...This is supple and plush and soft and approachable. We have notes of chocolate, leather, animal skins, tobacco leaves, licorice and dry herbs. Good complexity evident already. The wine picks up even more on the palate. Richly flavoured, balanced and with excellent length. Fine tannins and a seductive texture. .."

"This is a very good wine. The fruit works together beautifully with some nice support with a fine thread of tannins and a neat mix of cedar and vanilla oak. Sweet dark fruit with a light chocolate and mocha influence. Drink: To 2032.."
