Supporting our Children
Over the last three years, our world has endured and continues to endure challenging times. We may not realize it but our children are always listening and they are being impacted by their surroundings. Aside from the things they are seeing in the physical world, they are also being impacted by the virtual world. As parents and caretakers of children, we need to be in tune to this reality and be present for our children.
Children's behavior is a manifestation of their need. When children engage in undesirable behavior, the first step we can take is to stay regulated. Then we must be empathetic about their actions and try to understand why they made certain decisions. Once our children feel seen, we may begin to discuss the strategy they chose and what alternative strategies could have yielded a more positive outcome.
Our children need us to understand and process the world around them. As they make countless mistakes, let's keep in mind our children are experiencing more than ever before.
Ruth Beaglehole's Parent Support group is on Tuesday, February 21st at 8:15am in the Computer Lab .

Donnovan's Run: Elysian Heights 5K

Hard to believe but the 5K is around the corner! This is a special event that not only fundraises for our arts teachers' salaries but also procures funds to donate to the American Lung Association in honor of one of our former students, Donnovan Castellanos, who passed away of an asthma attack 7 years ago. Donnovan's mother, father, and family members will be at the event. We hope you will work with your children to find them sponsors to fundraise for our arts teachers and the American Lung Association. We are excited to see ALL of our community members support this special event on the 25th of February.

To all our parents who are interested in participating in the first ever Elysian Heights Soccer team, we would like to invite you to the Los Silver Lake Invitational on February 5th! This would be an opportunity to watch the current teams in action and begin to plan for starting our team for next years league. Hope to see you next Sunday, February 5th!!!

Groceries for Families
Date: Wednesday, Febraury 8, 2023

Location: In Front of the Parent Center
Over the last couple of years, Jen O'Connor has been harvesting vegetables from the school garden and procuring donations to create gift bags for families from our school.
She is looking to expand her operation and is looking for families who are interested in donating about an hour on Wednesday, January 25th at 10:30am. We hope you will make time to participate in this incredible endeavor.

WeBreak is a hip-hop dance company that specializes in teaching breaking to kids. they use their very own proprietary curriculum where students learn toprock, footwork and freezes. In their teaching of basic & intermediate concepts and moves, they encourage students to express themselves through dance, build confidence, and develop a positive team environment - all while having fun!
The NEW start date is February 9th.
K-2nd (3pm - 3:30pm)
3rd - 5th (3:30pm - 4:30pm)
Classes will be hosted in the Music Room (RM 2)

I'm at the front gate in the morning greeting students and parents. I love staying after the second bell to talk with parents who have questions, concerns or ideas. I am also available for scheduled private meetings in my office, just call the school to make an appointment.

Apoyando a nuestros niños
Durante los últimos tres años, nuestro mundo ha soportado y sigue soportando tiempos difíciles. Puede que no nos demos cuenta, pero nuestros hijos siempre están escuchando y están siendo impactados por su entorno. Aparte de las cosas que ven en el mundo físico, también están siendo impactados por el mundo virtual. Como padres y cuidadores de niños, debemos estar en sintonía con esta realidad y estar presentes para nuestros hijos.
El comportamiento de los niños es una manifestación de su necesidad. Cuando los niños se involucran en comportamientos indeseables, el primer paso que podemos dar es mantenernos regulados. Entonces debemos ser empáticos con sus acciones y tratar de entender por qué tomaron ciertas decisiones. Una vez que nuestros hijos se sientan vistos, podemos comenzar a discutir la estrategia que eligieron y qué estrategias alternativas podrían haber producido un resultado más positivo.
Nuestros hijos necesitan que entendamos y procesemos el mundo que les rodea. A medida que cometen innumerables errores, tengamos en cuenta que nuestros hijos están experimentando más que nunca.
El grupo de apoyo para padres de Ruth Beaglehole es el martes 21 de febrero a las 8:15 am en el laboratorio de computación.

¡Difícil de creer, pero los 5K están a la vuelta de la esquina! Este es un evento especial que no solo recauda fondos para los salarios de nuestros maestros de arte, sino que también obtiene fondos para donar a la Asociación Estadounidense del Pulmón en honor a uno de nuestros antiguos alumnos, Donnovan Castellanos, quien falleció de un ataque de asma hace 7 años. La madre, el padre y los miembros de la familia de Donnovan estarán en el evento. Esperamos que trabaje con sus hijos para encontrar patrocinadores para recaudar fondos para nuestros maestros de artes y la Asociación Americana del Pulmón. Estamos emocionados de ver a TODOS los miembros de nuestra comunidad apoyar este evento especial el 25 de febrero.
Equipo de fútbol de Elysian
¡A todos nuestros padres que estén interesados en participar en el primer equipo de fútbol de Elysian Heights, nos gustaría invitarlos al Los Silver Lake Invitational el 5 de febrero! Esta sería una oportunidad para ver a los equipos actuales en acción y comenzar a planificar el inicio de nuestro equipo para la liga del próximo año. ¡¡¡Te espero el próximo domingo 5 de febrero!!!

Durante los últimos dos años, Jen O'Connor ha estado cosechando vegetales del jardín escolar y obteniendo donaciones para crear bolsas de regalo para las familias de nuestra escuela.
Ella está buscando expandir su operación y está buscando familias que estén interesadas en donar alrededor de una hora el miércoles 25 de enero a las 10:30 am. Esperamos que se tome el tiempo para participar en este increíble esfuerzo.

WeBreak es una compañía de baile hip-hop que se especializa en enseñar break a los niños. usan su propio plan de estudios patentado donde los estudiantes aprenden toprock, juego de pies y congelaciones. En su enseñanza de conceptos y movimientos básicos e intermedios, alientan a los estudiantes a expresarse a través del baile, generar confianza y desarrollar un ambiente de equipo positivo, ¡todo mientras se divierten!
La NUEVA fecha de inicio es el 9 de febrero.

¡Quiero saber de ti!
Estoy en la puerta principal por la mañana saludando a los estudiantes y padres. Me encanta quedarme después de la segunda campana para hablar con los padres que tienen preguntas, inquietudes o ideas.
