Congratulations to all our Evergreen spellers, and thank you to all the families and community for your support and encouragement! The Spelling Bee is much more than rote memorization. Our competitors learned vocabulary, pronunciation, etymology, and improved their literacy and public speaking skills, too!

Good luck to Reyansh, who will represent Evergreen Middle School at the Regional Spelling Bee of King & Snohomish County on Sunday, March 26.

MOD Pizza Sammamish Fundraiser

Get ready for pizza night! This Thursday, Feb. 9, take the evening off dinner duty, because it's our MOD Pizza fundraiser day at the Sammamish location! All day long, MOD will donate 20 percent of their proceeds to EMS PTSA for orders when customers mention "Evergreen Middle School PTSA" at the register, or use code MODGIVES20 for digital orders! This offer is valid only at the Sammamish MOD Pizza store.

Theater Auditions Monday & Tuesday

Registered Theater Club students will audition after school this Monday, Feb. 6 and Tuesday, Feb. 7 for roles in our production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. Although participants in this no-cut program must audition to see where they might best fit into the cast, they are all guaranteed a part in the show. Parts include main roles, supporting roles and the ensemble.

Callbacks will be after school Thursday. Casting and a read-through will take place after school on Friday. Questions? Contact our theater producer, Swati Kaul.

We amended our budget, approved the findings of our midyear financial review, and elected our nominating committee. With the PTSA's assistance, our lost and found is now sorted and organized with the unclaimed items more easily viewable. The items will be placed outside the front doors during weekday hours so you can look through them at your convenience. Please stop by and bring your belongings home!

WSPTA Focus on Advocacy Week

February 6 to 10 is Washington State PTA's 2023 Focus on Advocacy Week. Advocacy for the education, health and well-being of all children is central to the mission of PTA, including EMS PTSA. We invite all members and concerned community members to join us this week as we focus on actions we can take individually to strengthen our collective advocacy.

Kids Coming TogetherUpcoming Community Service Events for Kids

Kids Coming Together provides opportunities for local youth in grades 3–8 to make new friends and connect with their community through service events led by high school students. Visit KCT's website to register for these upcoming events:

College 101: A Hybrid Presentation for Middle and High School Families

Middle and high school students and families are invited to join independent college counselor Mary Pat O’Neil for a hybrid (in-person/virtual) session on the college process. She will cover: What colleges want to know about students in the application; different types of colleges; how to create a college list; highly selective colleges; and the cost of college.

Eastlake High School Math Night

Eastlake High School's Math Honor Society Math Council invites EMS students to its upcoming Math Night. This event is intended to help engage middle school students in the world of math and will include booths and stations with fun, interactive activities and puzzles, including math trivia, a scavenger hunt and more.

Don't forget! If your EMS student is entering the Washington State PTA's Game Development Competition or Essay Contest, which we previously shared, the entry deadline for both is Feb. 15.

Students may enter this competition individually or in teams of up to five, using their creative talents to develop a computer game or a board game. This year's theme is Curiosity. (Details)
 

Essay ContestWashington State PTA Essay Contest

Every day, kids are exposed to a variety of people, and each one has an opportunity to influence the path a child takes. This contest is a platform for students to share their appreciation for the important influencers in their lives and education. The student must personally know the influencer they write about. February Is Black History Month

Honoring the Past; Inspiring the Future: Black History Month - A Black girl wearing a yellow striped top, green skirt and red sneakers sits cross-legged reading a book.
