Village Council Regular Meeting: February 7

Winnetka Futures Plan Public Hearing: February 15 at 7 PM

On Wednesday, February 15, the Plan Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the draft of the Winnetka Futures 2040 Plan, the Village’s Comprehensive Plan. The community is invited to attend the meeting, which will start at 7 PM and will be held at 510 Green Bay Road. Based upon the public comments received to date, the Commission is scheduled to make a recommendation to the Village Council regarding the Council’s adoption of the Comprehensive Plan. Green Bay Trail Open House: February 20, 6 - 8 PM

The Green Bay Trail is more than a trail, and to many it’s an experience with a unique character. What does the future of this trail look like, in Winnetka, so it can continue to serve the needs and wants of our community? Stop by Village Hall at 510 Green Bay Road on Monday, February 20th from 6 to 8 PM to review initial planning and design concepts and share your thoughts for the future.

Lakefront Regulations Information

Due to significant public interest in Village Council's discussions of zoning, development, and engineering regulations that apply to properties within the Village that abut the lakefront of Lake Michigan, the Village has created a webpage devoted to the conversations to date. View it here.

Recycling Drop-Off at 1390 Willow Road

The Village of Winnetka offers a drop-off site for recycling of various items at our Public Works department's lobby, located at 1390 Willow Road. Items can be dropped off Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4 PM. The following items are accepted:
  • Used athletic shoes
    • No metal, water, or mold is to be on the athletic shoes to be recycled.
      • No flip flops, sandals, pumps, dress shoes, boots, or cleats.
  • Small handheld electronics
    • No small handheld electronics with a motor.
    • No plastic.
    • The following items will not be accepted; microwaves, blenders, coffee makers, toasters/toaster ovens, lamps, and vacuum cleaners.
  • Compact Florescence Light Bulbs (“CFLS”)
    • Halogen or incandescent bulbs are not accepted.
  • Holiday lighting and cords

Environmental and Forestry Commission Green Award Nominations Accepted

The Village's Environmental and Forestry Commission invites nominations for its annual Green Awards Program. The program recognizes properties and households within Winnetka that demonstrate exceptional commitment to sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices. Residents, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to nominate their house, property, building, or project that has been completed within the past five years. Applications are accepted through February 28, 2023. Learn more
