February's Theme: LOVE!.......National Service ONLINE ONLY this Sunday!.......Tu Bishvat Seder & Fundraiser for Elder Dorothy Taylor

February's Theme: LOVE

THIS SUNDAY FEB 5 | 1PM
NATIONAL SERVICE:
COVENANTING THROUGH TRANSITION

Online ONLY via Zoom

NOTE 1:00PM start time!

Congregations are experiencing a lot of change these days: from ministerial transitions to implementing the 8th Principle, all during a pandemic. Upheaval, loss, uncertainty, pain, aspirations, conflict: cultural shifts within and without are calling us to hold one another gently, despite our differences and difficulties.

Covenanting through Transition is a national worship service that asks us “How do we stay in covenant through all of this in our communities? How do we stay in it in a good way when it is hard and people aren’t always their best selves or are disappointed?”

We encourage you to bring materials to help you participate in a creative ritual to express yourself during the service; art supplies, an instrument, findings from outside, whatever moves you!

Where: Zoom, YouTube Live
Use the bitly link to join the service on Zoom, or watch live on CUC’s YouTube channel If you’re phoning in, call 1-855-703-8985 and enter the Meeting ID and password when prompted:

Love Will Keep Us Together

Speaker: Rev. Peter Boullata

INVITATION FROM BETH ISRAEL!

Tu Bishvat Seder and
Fundraiser for Elder Dorothy Taylor

Monday, February 6 at 6PM at 775 Weller St

RSVP Required. Limited Seating.
Please register by Friday, February 3, using this form: https://forms.gle/JmcSN8gCHX9bZidx8

At 6:00 Nevia Frank and the youth of Beth Israel will lead a seder for the community. They are extending a special invitation to both the Beth Israel Congregation and the Unitarian Fellowship. Seating is limited. Registration will be kept open until seats are full. The virtual talk with Dorothy will be available online.

At 7:30 Elder Dorothy Taylor, an honoured knowledge holder and environmental activist, will join us virtually from Curve Lake First Nation to speak on Indigenous Relationship with Mother Nature. Dorothy will share Indigenous cultural perspectives and relationships with the land, water, and all that dwell within Creation.

Donations -- cash, cheque or etransfer to sacredwatercirclecontact@gmail.com are welcome at the event. Feel free to contribute even if you cannot attend. Elder Dorothy Taylor lives with muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair to get around. She needs a more powerful chair to reach certain shorelines to lead water ceremonies. She does not qualify for government assistance. The Sacred Water Collective has raised close to the goal needed to purchase the $32,000 chair. We can help get them to the finish line and support Dorothy's ability to participate fully in daily and ceremonial life. This is a wonderful opportunity to honor and support the work of protecting the waters and lands.

The seder is only offered in person. Those unable to attend in person can join us virtually at 7:30pm to listen to the talk from Dorothy.

NON-FICTION BOOK CLUB | FEBRUARY

Love: A History by Simon May
Love - unconditional, selfless, unchanging, sincere, and totally accepting - worshipped today as the West's only universal religion. To challenge it is one of our few remaining taboos. In this pathbreaking and superbly written book, philosopher Simon May does just that, dissecting our resilient ruling ideas of love and showing how they are the product of a long and powerful cultural heritage.
Join us via Zoom: Thursday Feb 9 and 23 at 2pm:  https://tinyurl.com/UFPBookClub

Housing Search!

Heather and Colin are a lovely couple expecting their first child in May and in need of housing in Peterborough or the surrounding area.  Due to the recent unexpected death of Heather's mom, they need a place to rent for the next year, close by to support Heather's father. A rental date of March or April would be ideal. Heather and Colin are financially stable, non-smokers, have no pets and one vehicle. Heather is grieving and under a great deal of stress trying to secure housing.  Any suggestions are appreciated. Please Contact:
Heather Jutras  (UFP members Arthur and Linda Herold's daughter in law and friend of Heather and Colin's) 705-768-4122 hjutras2225@gmail.com
