To the Burr Ridge Community,

Happy February! I hope your family and you are happy, healthy and getting back into the swing of things after the New Year. February is often seen as the dreariest month of the year. While short, it also welcomes festivities like the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, and last but not least, the celebration of Valentine’s Day. If you haven't made plans for Valentine's yet, we would encourage you to explore our incredible dining spots in and around the Burr Ridge area and support a local establishment.

I would also like to take a moment to invite you to participate in the Burr Ridge Blood Drive this month, taking place Monday, February 6th from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Police Training Room. Through this effort, we have the capacity to save lives and your contribution is greatly appreciated.

On January 23, the Board of Trustees and I discussed the consideration of the sale of a 70-acre property at 79th Street and Willow Springs Road by the Lyons Township High School District 204 Board of Education (LTHS) in the Village of Willow Springs. We are in support of the development vision of Willow Springs, which encourages single-family homes and light retail. The Board will consider a formal resolution in support of the existing zoning by Willow Springs at its February 13 meeting. We will continue to proactively communicate on this matter as more develops. You can share input and learn more about this development by visiting www.ltwillowsprings.org.

Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Enacts New Smoke Alarm Law

An updated Smoke Alarm Law is in effect in Illinois. This law requires any new smoke alarm installed within a single or multi-family home to be an alarm that features a 10-year sealed battery. Currently-installed alarms are exempt from the requirement and may remain in use until they exceed ten years from the date of manufacture, as long as they are operating properly. Learn more here.

2023 Road Program Approved

On January 9, 2023, the Board approved the 2023 Village Road Program, estimated at $954,500. The 2023 Road Program will rehabilitate and resurface streets in the Devon of Burr Ridge subdivision, which includes Royal Drive, Devon Drive, Wedgewood Drive, and surrounding streets between 87th Street and 91st Street.  Also included in our summertime road work will be crack sealing various roads, restriping and pavement markings, and engineering services to design an upcoming rehabilitation of 83rd Street.  Residents in the Devon of Burr Ridge neighborhood will receive a separate letter from the Village with a project schedule for our rehabilitation and resurfacing project.

Winter Tree Trimming

The Village has contracted Winkler Tree Service to provide regularly scheduled parkway tree maintenance. The Village Arborist closely monitors the health and development of our neighborhood's parkway trees and schedules maintenance accordingly. The contractor trims trees larger than eight inches in diameter. This year, work will primarily take place in the neighborhoods east of County Line Road, between 79th Street and I-55, as well as Devon of Burr Ridge. You can learn more about the Village's commitment to a healthy tree canopy here.
Burglary Awareness Seminar Recap

On January 25, Burr Ridge Detectives presented a Burglary Awareness Seminar to residents. The well-attended seminar covered topics such as Ruse Entry Burglaries and Forced Entry Burglaries. The Detectives showed attendees the types of suspicious activity associated with burglars “casing” a location and how to “Target Harden” their homes to avoid becoming a victim of burglary. Suggested methods were always locking doors and setting alarms, setting up lighting to be on at different times while away, making sure newspapers and mail do not collect on the driveway or in the mailbox for extended periods, not allowing anyone into your home who you are not expecting, and never leaving the key fob in your vehicle while it is unattended.
