NWO Roadmap grant for digital infrastructure Social Sciences and Humanities

The collaboration between ODISSEI and CLARIAH and fifteen national partners has been awarded an NWO Large-scale Research Infrastructure Grant of €15.2 million. This new collaboration, Social Science and Humanities Open Cloud for the Netherlands (SSHOC-NL) will make it possible for researchers to securely and ethically link and analyse a huge range of data such as historical records, textual data, images, survey data, and social media data. This will help researchers address some of the most pressing issues that society faces such as polarisation, social inequalities, and environmental changes.

ODISSEI Summer School programme & deadline
|
|
|
The programme outline for the upcoming free SICSS-ODISSEI summer school has been added to the website. In this summer school, which takes place in Rotterdam from 19-30 June, ODISSEI hopes to bring together PhD students, post-docs and early career researchers interested in computational social science. Those who are interested in participating are warmly encouraged to apply. Terms and conditions can be found on the website. Applications can be submitted online no later than 28 February 2023.

Save the date ODISSEI conference
|
|
|
On 2 November, the ODISSEI Conference for Social Sciences in the Netherlands 2023 will take place in Utrecht. With more than 300 participants and more than 70 presentations, last year’s conference was a great success. A Call for Papers for the upcoming conference will follow later this year. We hope many of you can already save the date in your calendars.

New version of the ODISSEI Portal
|
|
|
A new prototype of the ODISSEI Portal has recently been launched. It now includes social science collections from DataverseNL alongside metadata from CBS, DANS SSH data station and LISS panel. The new prototype features several improvements, such as better data citations and information on the provenance of the metadata.

CBS-ODISSEI Microdata Meeting: Expert Q&A
|
|
 On 7 March the next CBS-ODISSEI Microdata Meeting: Expert Q&A will take place from 11:00 to 12:00. The Q&A, which will focus on the Secmbus-file, is hosted by CBS-experts Koos Arts and Kai Gidding. The Secmbus-file gives an indication of the socio-economic status of individuals over the period 1999-2021. If you would like to know to what extent Secmbus can be useful for your research, you would like to know how Secmbus is related to other datasets on income or have any other questions, please register below.

Microdata Access Grant Information Event and ODISSEI Portal Presentation
|
|
|
The 2023 Microdata Access Grant call will open in March. Researchers who want to work with microdata and consider applying for the Microdata Access Grant (MAG) are welcome to join the online Information Event that is organised in collaboration with CBS on March 14, 14:00-15:00. During this meeting potential applicants can ask questions on conducting research with the CBS Microdata (available data, procedures etc.) and the grant application procedure.

More information on searching for the data can be obtained during an online ODISSEI Portal presentation, which will be held during a CBS-ODISSEI Microdata Meeting on April 4 (14:00-15:00). The ODISSEI Portal combines metadata from a wide variety of research data repositories into a single interface, including CBS microdata, which facilitate the search for the right data for a research project.

FAIRsharing for the Social Sciences
|
|
|
FAIRsharing, an online collection of resources to implement the FAIR principles, can be very useful for social scientists, for instance when writing their Data Management Plan (DMP). Check out the new FAIR support blog post, in which the purposes and structure of FAIRsharing are described.

Netherlands eScience Fellowship Call for Applicants
|
|
 The Netherlands eScience Center accepts applications from researchers who have the ambition to promote or improve the use of research software within their organization or discipline to become an eScience Center Fellow. The Center hosts an info event next Wednesday 22 February from 14:00 to 16:00 online. At the event, interested applicants will hear from the Fellowship coordinators and the current eScience Center Fellows.

 The SURF Research Day will take place on 23 May in Amersfoort. The conference connects research, IT and innovation. You can now submit ideas for sessions, and nominate people for the SURF Research Support Champion awards. These awards put in the spotlight those who have made remarkable efforts to support research within their institution. |
