A Letter From Our Executive Director

Hello All,

It’s already February, and as we move into the new year, our Club kids have been busy getting help with schoolwork, experimenting with STEM activities, and being active in our gyms. Families have also been spending time at the Clubs – enjoying watching basketball games, movies and connecting with other parents in their community.

Summer may seem far away, but our program staff has been busy planning a summer full of creative activities and exciting adventures for all ages. Registration for our summer programs will be happening soon – watch our websites for details. Spring sport registration is underway – check out your Club webpage for which sports are offered and to register.

Our staff are also planning for our Reach for the Stars Gala this fall on September 30, 2023 at the Tulalip Resort Casino. We are grateful for your overwhelming support of this event year after year. Sponsorships are available and we welcome new ideas and ways to have donors participate.

We're very excited about the completion of our new Alderwood Learning Lab this month! We can't wait to show it to you and invite you to attend our Grand Opening on February 28, 2023. We look forward to the Grand Opening of our newest Club building in Coupeville and our fully-renovated Lummi Club – more details soon.

It's been an amazing experience to watch all the excitement in our 25 Clubs as we embrace 2023! Please contact me if you're interested in taking a tour of our facilities and learning more about our organization.

Thank you for continuing to support our mission – To enable all young people, especially those that need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Alumni Spotlight: The Cronin Family

Occasionally, a non-profit organization is blessed with an entire family that gives its heart and soul to that entity.  For the Boys & Girls’ Club of Snohomish County, the Cronin family is one of those pillars of our community.  To understand the context, one needs to go back about 50 years when the patriarch of the family, Bert Cronin, began coaching youth basketball and football at the North Everett Boys & Girls’ Club, a group that included future Super Bowl quarterback, Chris Chandler.

Eventually, Bert became a long-standing BGCSC Board Member and served a stint as board president.  As a true visionary for the greater Snohomish County, Bert utilized his community connections and commercial property development business to support major facilities improvement projects at the North Everett Club, helped secure land for and the construction of the Lake Stevens Club, as well as to lead the capital campaign for the gorgeous Granite Falls Club building before he passed away in 2019.

For all his unselfish efforts in these undertakings, the gym at Granite Falls is dedicated to Bert Cronin, an honor that his son, Joe Cronin, suggests his dad would have dismissed as unnecessary.  Bert’s legacy continues with the commitment his wife, Roxi, and three children have made to the BGCSC.  Roxi has served on the committee to select the Snohomish County Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year for many years and realized the special occasion of recognizing the selected Youth of the Year needed to be “spiced up,” as her son, Joe, describes it. So, in addition to adding the Bert Cronin Award and Scholarship for the winner, Roxi coordinates having the night’s annual festivities at the Everett Golf & Country Club.

Bert and Roxi's children contribute in their own way, as well.  Joe, the eldest son, has been on the BGCSC Board of Directors for the past six years, serving as the Fundraising Committee Chair for the past three years, in addition to his fulltime teaching and coaching duties at O’Dea High School, while also coaching his own children in their five youth sports. Joe and his wife, Jamie, chaired the BGCSC “Reach for the Stars” annual Gala this past year and will also chair in 2023.

The other two Cronin siblings also have gotten involved in aiding the BGCSC cause:  John, President of Cronin Family Properties, has been instrumental in the renovation of the teen center at the North Everett Club and daughter, Kelli, is responsible for the distribution of funds for the Youth of the Year program through the Cronin Endowment.  Until just a few years ago, Bert Cronin could be seen running up and down the basketball court with guys 40-years younger than him at the North Everett Club.  Despite the age difference, Bert could always be counted on to make that outside shot. He would be proud to see how his family continues to score points for the Snohomish County clubs.
