2023 Annual General Meeting

We encourage active members to attend our AGM Sunday, April 16 at the hall, 3:30 to 4:30. Two long term board members are stepping down but, never fear, two other Bonnie Dooners are stepping up to take their place! We do need help though. We need members to vote for the board and approve the budget. And, if you want to contribute to BDCL's good governance, there is one more opening on the board.

Spring programming

Save the date, we’re hosting a Clothing Swap Saturday, May 27 from 10am to 4pm. Get your spring cleaning started & help reduce textile waste! Members from all communities are welcome to attend (no membership required).

Our next Family Movie Night takes place Friday, April 21. We will show Sing, with free popcorn (and lots of space for kids to work off some energy!) More...

Our next Seniors Film & Lunch will be held Thursday, April 20 at 10:30. We'll show three short films from the NFB, ranging from the hilarious to the profound. More...

Our Preschool Playgroup is open to members of any community league. Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00. More...

A second 10-class session of Yoga with Kenzie Checknita has begun. Wednesday evenings from 7:15 to 8:30. More...

T'ai Chi Chih continues its Wednesday morning classes. More...

Pickleball runs Monday afternoon and Monday evening. More...

Salute to volunteers

We are very grateful for our team of volunteers who made the 2022/23 rink season so successful! Thanks to Adam, Alan, Anakin, Andy, Bill, Brad, Casey, Chris, Corey, Dan, Giffin, Kellen, Mark, and Patrick. There is no way we could have done it without your hard work and dedication!

If you are interested in contributing to the good life in Bonnie Doon, contact Jan at volunteers@bonniedoon.ca. There are a number of small jobs (and a few "biggish" jobs!) you could help with.

What's your cause?

We know you have them, and it is satisfying & healthy to learn and act with neighbours. If advocacy is your bag or you are simply concerned about the issues of the day, reply to this email and tell us. We can help you collaborate with other Bonnie Dooners, perhaps by providing meeting space, by spreading the word or with funding.

One example is the Vision Zero group of Bonnie Doon residents working to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety in our neighbourhood. Reply to this email and share your vision.

Local support

Parents of Rutherford School students are fundraising in support of local families that need a bit of a hand. Support their Bottle Drive by dropping off at the school, 8620 91 Street:

Organic buying club

Do you prefer your eggs farm fresh and your veggies to be top quality organic? Well then join us at The Hive: An Organic Food Collective. We order groceries from a variety of local and organic farms as well as an organic grocery distributor. On the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, we get together at the hall where we sort wonderful food for our homes. If you are interested, please attend our information night May 1 at 6 pm, Bonnie Doon Hall or contact apesfoodclubmembership@gmail.com.

Bees & butterflies

Bonnie Doon Centre (AKA, The Mall) has installed bee hives on their roof. They write that the hives are home to thousands of bees from the Italian species Apis mellifera. that are known for their calm and docile nature. There is a sign at the south end of the mall explaining this and their Project Butterfly.

Discussing youth & tech

The Central Baptist Church in Bonnie Doon asked us to share an event in their Critical Conversations series:
  • Kids, Teens & Technology
  • Saturday, April 22 from 7-9pm
  • Central Baptist Church, 9419 95 Street
"Technology has become a huge part of our lives regardless of age. Many parents and caregivers are wondering how to help their kids and teens navigate the world of tech. Come join the conversation! You'll hear a presentation and engage in discussion with other caregivers over coffee and dessert. Information and discussion will be led by Dr. Lia Daniels, Professor of Educational Psychology at the UofA."

$5 donation suggested. Register here.
