Sons of Norway Mission Statement
The mission of Sons of Norway is to promote and preserve the heritage and culture of Norway, to celebrate our relationship with other Nordic countries, and to provide quality insurance and financial products to its members.

Poulsbo Sons of Norway 2-44 - President's Message
Hej all,
This past month, the Ingeborg society hosted their first meeting, a great way to get to know fellow lodge members and spend time with friends while honoring some of our culture and heritage at the Sons of Norway. Meeting on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 6-8pm in the Viking room, you will spend time with each other, with drinks, laughter, and a bit of fun crafty projects from home. For those looking for an easy way of getting involved in a low-key situation, this is the event for you! It’s no cost to join, so drop by and see what you think.
On the second Tuesday of the month, the lodge has their monthly lodge meetings. Are you going?  Not only are there cultural activities during the meeting, but it is time for you to observe the lodge’s leadership at work. I encourage any member to come, but specifically because this is a time where we welcome and vote on new members. As current members, it is kind to come and welcome and get to know our new members, encouraging them to join in the many activities and volunteer programs here at our lodge. If they see you participating, I think they will too! The cultural program built into the meeting often have activities for members to participate and learn. And there is the opportunity for your input and advice on decisions that are brought up during the lodge meetings, like any financial matters needing approval from the lodge body. It is a good time to be involved in the inner workings of the lodge.
The book reading at the lodge by Kjersti Egerdahl of The Viking Honbok and the Viking Valisbot bonfire during Poulsbo’s Frosty Fest on February 10-12 was a great success. The lodge is continuing to be a part of the community providing a view of Norway to both the residents and visitors to our town.  And I’m quite thrilled about our first Nordic Heritage Day on February 25th, full of activities such as baking, weaving and Aquavit tasting, put on by lodge members for lodge members to learn more about our Scandinavian culture. Lunch was Smorrebrod, which is a variety of open-faced sandwiches, followed by (beef soup) Kjottsuppe. Because of the enthusiasm for this event, I expect it will happen every year.
Please support the Building Association Auction on March 18! Check out the flyer in the newsletter for more info. See you down at the lodge!

News from the Building Association

The Building Association, along with some other lodge members, have refinished the Viking room floor.  A total of five coats were put on the floor. I must congratulate all 13 volunteers, they did a fantastic job. It looks like a professional company did the work! We have only had compliments on this job. What a wonderful team.
Paul Nicholson, Building Association President

Your Building Association is excited to announce there will be a Comedy/Dinner Auction to raise funds to complete needed repairs and maintain our 50-year-old building
The event will be held March 18th at 5pm in the Marine Room and is being catered by Danny’s BBQ.  The comedy show will feature Cris Larsen, who will also be the auctioneer.
You can purchase tickets, donate items, or browse the catalog of auction items at:

https://buildingassociationpouls.schoolauction.net/2022auction

Please come and join us!
How about a chance to pare down your life? The Building Association is hoping to put together around 10 baskets filled with donated items for the Auction on March 18.

We are looking for small but special items to put in those baskets. Think of creating a basket with a themed items from your closets. How about Spa items, Holiday stuff, kitchen,
Sports, Viking or Norwegian bits? We need baskets, also.

Bring your donations to the Trolls’Den or to the bin outside the office by March 9. Bittina Chapman and pals will take your random treasures and turn them into Auction Basket Magic.
Remember-regifting is an art.

Visste Du?
(Did you know?) that our lodge had its first adult heritage camp on February 25th?  If you weren’t there, you missed a wonderful day of sessions in genealogy, wood turning, lucet knitting, triangle loom weaving, and wood carving to say nothing of the great food and drink classes in making Swedish pancakes and Fenalar (preserved leg of lamb) with Ruby, open-faced sandwiches with Darlene, Nordic food tasting with Lizbeth and Nordic cocktails with Koleen.  Camp culminated in a grand finale aquavit tasting in the Trolls’ Den.  It was such a successful first attempt that there will definitely be more heritage camps in the future.  Keep tuned!
