Huge congratulations to East Perth strategic design consultancy Anthologie for becoming Switch Your Thinking's newest Switched on Business Award winner! We recently visited Anthologie's East Perth premises where Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas presented the award to Managing Director Amy Sutton, praising her and the Anthologie team for their substantial steps towards embedding sustainability practices into their day to day operations. Mayor of the City of Armadale and Chair of the South East Regional Energy Group - Cr Ruth Butterfield - spoke about the importance of business sustainability and to congratulate Anthologie for their outstanding efforts.
In 2021, Anthologie became the first Western Australian strategic design consultancy to become Beyond Carbon Neutral, offsetting above and beyond the organisation's yearly emissions through Carbon Positive Australia. Last year, Anthologie breathed new life into an old warehouse in East Perth which would otherwise have been knocked down for re-development and installed energy efficient LED lights, water efficient appliances and solar panels. Anthologie also has maximised the environmental benefits of solar power by switching off gas over to electricity for its heating and appliance needs.
Anthologie has a sustainability team, made up of passionate individuals who actively promote environmental initiatives and reduce waste generation. They have:
- Taken steps to maximise recycling, including a Containers for Change account that donates revenue to Foodbank.
- Minimised obsolescence, their office is currently refit with recycled furniture.
- Prioritised sustainable and local procurement from suppliers through to clients.
- Managed the business using a paperless administration system.
- Does not provide or purchase single use kitchen items.
Since May 2022, Anthologie have generated 10.41 MWh from its solar panels, which has been a total saving of 5.52t CO2-e. This is equivalent to 141 trees planted, or 22,138km of car emissions avoided! Not only that, in 2020-2021 Anthologie offset 37.19 CO2-e emissions with Carbon Positive Australia, resulting in a diversity of 166 trees planted and natural bushland revegetated.
The most recent round of the Switched on Business Award (May - November) yielded several impressive nominations, with Marjorie Mann Mt. Lawley Daycare Centre and Rosen Australia Pty Ltd both being recognised with Certificates of Commendation from the judging panel who were impressed with their sustainability initiatives to date.
If you own, manage or work in a business you think is working hard to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and operate sustainably, consider nominating for the next round of the Switched on Business Award. Further information on the award as well as the nomination process and guidelines can be found on the Switch Your Thinking website. The nomination period for the current round closes on Friday May 12th 2023 at 5pm.

City of Gosnells launches recycling hubs at Civic Centre and libraries
|
|
The City of Gosnells recently installed recycling hubs at its Civic Centre and libraries. Residents can now take empty aerosol cans, mobile phones and chargers, household printer cartridges and light globes to these recycling hubs from which the items will be responsibly collected and reprocessed. If you have any queries on what can and can't be recycled at these locations, please reach out to the SYT team at mail@switchyourthinking.com.
If you need to dispose of household batteries, you can take them to one of many B-Cycle drop-off points in your local area. Find out what you can and cannot recycle through the B-Cycle program here.
