To the Bard College Community,
On behalf of the College and the Open Society University Network, I write to express deep sympathy and concern for all the many thousands of individuals and families suffering from the massive earthquake in Turkey and Syria. This extraordinary disaster has resulted in more than 25,000 deaths, the displacement of thousands more, and a humanitarian crisis for survivors in the affected regions.
I want to assure the Bard College community that the College is exploring how best to assist in this crisis. I urge all who can to help, as individuals, in the many relief efforts underway by humanitarian organizations. The College is concentrating on creating special scholarship programs for students from the devastated areas, as we have done for students affected by the fall of Kabul, and the war in Ukraine. We are also investigating ways to assist scholars and teachers from the areas of devastation.
Words adequate to express the intense sorrow and anguish in the face of this tragedy are hard to find. Please be assured that Bard will do its best to help.
