Update from the Board

Dear members of EuroSEAS,

It is already more than six months ago since we said goodbye to each other after the successful Paris Conference of EuroSEAS. As the wheel of time never stops, you will find below, the save-the-date for the next conference. We have of course Anne Yvonne Guillou as our new president and also welcome a new board member, Adam Tyson, who as ASEASUK chair takes over from Deirdre McKay as regional representative for the UK. There are a few initiatives highlighted below: the process toward representation of SEA-based members on the board and the first EuroSEAS Masterclass in Asia. We hope that you, the members, will play an active part in these developments and will keep sharing your info through the website and the newsletter on opportunities and events of interest to our network.

Save the date: EuroSEAS masterclass 2023 in Southeast Asia!

EuroSEAS organizes a masterclass for a small number of PhD students who work on Southeast Asia in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Unlike the former masterclasses that were always held in conjunction with the EuroSEAS conference, this year, for the first time, the masterclass will take place in Southeast Asia, as an independent event on 22 & 23 May 2023, in cooperation with the State University of Malang, in Malang (East-Java, Indonesia). A separate call will be sent out later this week!

Save the date: EuroSEAS conference 2024 in Amsterdam!

The next EuroSEAS conference will be held from 22-26 July 2024 at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands! Board members Yatun Sastramidjaja and Laurens Bakker will be leading the local organizing committee. Mark the dates on your calendar! A call for panels and more information will be announced in early June 2023.

Results feedback form Paris 2022 & representation Southeast Asia based members

In September we invited members of EuroSEAS to give their feedback on the EuroSEAS conference 2022 in Paris. The Board also asked for input from the members about how to realize a representation on the board of members based in Southeast Asia. The Board will appoint a small working group of some Southeast Asian members, the EuroSEAS secretariat and some Board members to evaluate the input and draft a first proposal for a way towards representation of Southeast Asian members. The work on constitutional change to include representation of Southeast Asia based EuroSEAS members on the board is starting and will be reported on in the next Newsletter!
