Get your costumes ready - Horrorween Con Idaho (Garden City, ID) has added $1,000 in cash prizes to their Horrorween Costume Contest. The winner of the Master Class Costume category will receive a $1,000 cash prize plus a $500 store credit from Mile High FX Makeup. Best in Show will receive $500 cash and $250 store credit. The winner of the Intermediate category will receive $150 cash and $150 store credit. The winner of the Beginner category will receive $100 and $100 store credit. Finally, winners of the Fan Favorite and Judges Choice categories will each receive $50. Horrorween Con Idaho takes place July 22nd - 23rd. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $25 for General Admission. 

Creep I.E. Con (Ontario, CA) will return with not one but two events over the next 12 months. First, the new Creep I.E. Con Aftermath at the Ontario Convention Center is on September 23rd - 24th. This event, described as "Where horror and pop culture collide," - will celebrate the start of the Halloween season and have a pop culture focus. Next, the flagship Creep I.E. Con will return for its third year on February 3rd - 4th.

These killer valentines are hand delivered by your choice of Sam (Trick 'r Treat), Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Ghostface, or The Joker. Each Scareytine is $35 and a portion of the proceeds will go to assisting a local domestic violence survivor in need of help. 

The Immersive Arts Collective will present The Immortal Obscure Art Show with an opening reception on Friday, March 10th, at The Count's Den (Los Angeles, CA). This immersive and interactive event will celebrate the work of ten local artists whose art reflects the dark, horrific, abstract, surreal, obscure, and macabre. Featured artists include Adam McCarthy, Analy Nakat, Dylan XVX, Falcon Bourne, Jess Sabine, Kria Lindquist, Loneschach, Shane Izykowski, Spinestealer, and Stephanie Inagaki. All of the proceeds from donations, ticket sales, and sale of featured artwork go to the artists and to fund arts workshops for disadvantaged youth at IAC. The one-night-only opening reception includes live painting, immersive theater, a silent auction, and original art for sale, and some artists will be in attendance. Original artwork will be available through the IAC's online shop until April 10th. Tickets are on sale now starting at $25 for General Admission and $55 for VIP Admission. The IAC is a nonprofit organization of local artists dedicated to creating unique and experimental projects across a diverse range of art forms. They create unusual, intimate art that provides learning opportunities and work experience to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.


 

Celebrating Halloween
 

Last month, we reported on a proposed Utah resolution to move Halloween celebrations to the last Friday of every October. Utah Senate lawmakers have rejected that bill. It failed to pass on a 9 to 16 vote. Opponents of the bill argued that they do not need to be told when to celebrate a holiday. “Halloween, as it currently exists, is an American achievement,” said Sen. Lincoln Fillmore (R-South Jordan). “And we should protect it by keeping our grubby mitts off it.”
