Connecting for a year of climate action

Dear <<First Name>>,

We are excited for a year full of local climate action! We are looking forward to connecting and co-creating climate action through natural climate solutions (also known as nature-based climate solutions) with you. Keep reading for some great ways to get involved in our community!

We will be highlighting different themes within the field of natural climate solutions each month starting this month with GARDEN AND HABITAT PLANNING! In March, we will highlight SOIL HEALTH AND REGENERATIVE PRACTICES.

You may also see Cool Boulder news coming from the Climate Initiatives department of the City of Boulder or from any one of our partner organizations. There are now over 30 organizations that have formally partnered with the Cool Boulder campaign, and we welcome new partners all the time—email info@coolboulder.org to begin the conversation.

+ Learn and Act: Free Garden Planning Workshop this Saturday!

Thank you to the Butterfly Pavillion for partnering with Cool Boulder to offer a FREE garden planning workshop this Saturday, February 18th from 10:30am to noon.

Why settle for boring, unsustainable turf, when you could have a landscape that saves water and creates habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife? This free, in-person workshop from Butterfly Pavilion and the Cool Boulder team introduces concepts about site assessment, phasing and design for residential landscapes, as well as examples of successful climate-resilient residential landscapes.

+ Action: *COMING SOON* Pollinator Advocate Program

We can't wait to see the leadership Pollinator Advocates brings to our community this year! The second year of training is starting soon! The free course will begin the week of May 28. Details and application instructions will be shared in our March Newsletter and posted on the website.

Last September
city council celebrated and expressed their gratitude to a group of 16 Boulder residents who completed the first Pollinator Advocate training. Cool Boulder is excited to offer the training again this year, led by Urban Biodiversity Habitat Specialist Andrea Montoya. The rich curriculum includes classroom sessions and small group trainings in habitat spaces, led by community experts in entomology, plant and wildlife ecology, soil health, community organizing and more.

Pollinator Advocates will learn about the plants and pollinators that live in our local ecosystems. But it’s far more than that. As Pollinator Advocates spend time together building habitat, they also learn how to build community with landscapes and each other to protect pollinators, birds and living systems. They also gain an understanding of how flourishing ecosystems are essential for climate action.

+ Interested in volunteering? Keep your eyes on our calendar!

We are building a calendar to help the Cool Boulder community connect to the incredible work happening around the area. Cool Boulder has over 30 amazing partnering organizations. They all have their own events and programs. Check out the calendar and our partners websites! You might just find the perfect group to volunteer with this year.

The calendar will continue to grow, so please check back in over the year!

Recap: Biodiversity, Climate, and You

Thank you to everyone who joined the January Biodiversity, Climate, and You event either in-person or online. We had a full house and a great evening learning about international biodiversity agreements and how this impacts us at a local level. We finished the night with climate action by making cold weather sow bags

See these instructions if you need a reminder of how to care for your sow bag!

Here is the city summary, and recap, recording and Q&A's from the event are here.
