Dear <<First Name>>,
Today we publish the attached letter, where 24 stakeholders urge the members of the TRAN Committee to support tabled amendments referencing and supporting CO2 transport via ship, rail, barge, and truck as indispensable components of a comprehensive infrastructure required for decarbonization across Europe.
As already outlined in our explainer on the topic, currently, CO2 transport via pipeline and CO2 storage is recognized in the revised TEN-E Regulation. The missing piece of the puzzle is the recognition of transport of CO2 to storage via different modes of transport in the TEN-T Regulation. These modes of transport are crucial for cohesive European decarbonization, in particular for regions placed far away from storage sites. Given the relatively high degree of flexibility and lower up-front costs, ship, rail, barge, and truck are crucial to spark wide-scale market development, including smaller emitters fostering regional development of clusters and hubs for further transport of CO2 to storage. TEN-T Recognition of these modes of transport would also fulfil important requirements to foster synergies between the TEN-E and TEN-T networks.
It is the 24 signatories’ hope that the letter will not only highlight the importance of such recognition under the TEN-T Regulation but result in a strong position from the European Parliament on this vital issue before entering into Trilogues on the file.
The signed letter is a part of the ongoing #TenTTuesday campaign, and we urge you to get in touch with your questions and are more than happy to engage in further dialogue on the importance of this issue.
