National Mandatory Audit - start now if not already done so

In case you missed the 8th February PSNC item:

By 31st March 2023, all community pharmacy contractors must have completed the 2022/23 national clinical audit on valproate, over a six-week consecutive period.  The audit aims to reduce the potential harm caused by taking valproate during pregnancy.

For contractors who have not yet commenced the audit, the last day on which you can start the audit and complete it by 31st March is Saturday 18th February 2023.

While contractors are required to conduct the audit over a six-week consecutive period, the workload associated with the audit is expected to be manageable for all contractors as the number of patients covered by the audit is very low.

When a similar audit was undertaken in the 2019/20 PQS, on average, there were 1.2 patients per pharmacy that participated over a three-month period; over a six-week audit period this is likely to be lower still.

Racism in pharmacy: GPhC report on November 2022 roundtable event

On 1 November 2022, GPhC welcomed key stakeholders from across the pharmacy sector, to discuss how racism manifests and affects pharmacy professionals and how this can have a resulting impact on patient care.

In “Delivering equality, improving diversity and fostering inclusion: our strategy for change”, GPhC set out their obligation and opportunity to use all of their regulatory levers and influence to help tackle discrimination and support the reduction of health inequalities.

Delegates were encouraged to share their thoughts and reflections and to identify actions and areas of coordinated interventions. The discussion was honest and open, and delegates expressed the GPhC’s unique opportunity to speak out and tackle racism, because of their regulatory role.

The round table report includes highlights from external speakers and GPhC staff, as well as a summary of the points raised by stakeholders during the discussion.

The report also presents an overview of the work that the GPhC has already undertaken in line with their EDI strategy, which sets out a framework for how the GPhC will embed considerations of equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of its work as a regulator.

CPPE – Support for your Consultation Skills

CPPE Consultation Skills workshop – Leeds, Monday 6th March

As community pharmacy teams provide more and increasingly clinical services, the need for effective consultations is greater than ever.

CPPE are running a full-day, face-to-face workshop in Leeds on Monday 6th March, supported by Paul Jenks (our CPL chair), which will help pharmacy professionals from all sectors and with different experiences to focus on and develop their consultation skills further. Whether you’re really experienced, or new to patient-facing consultations, you’ll get the chance to reflect on and grow your skills to support person-centred care and improve patient outcomes.

The workshop uses an interactive approach to refresh your knowledge of some key consultation models, before giving you chance to practice in a safe environment with medically trained actors.
