New DSD Release

This album is available in DSD only at NativeDSD.

Hearingfield is the ambient project by Seattle based composer and musician, Michael Mitchell. Its purpose is to provide a separate outlet for musical works, which are aimed squarely at audiophile HiFi systems.

“This is a representation of synesthesia, as I’ve always experienced it. Thankfully, it’s been made possible by my discovery of DSD recording and audiophile HiFi systems, and the enhanced immersion that these technologies provide. To some, the recordings may be viewed more as calibration tracks for an audio system. But maybe they will also encourage people to think about experiencing music and sound in a different way.”

The past and the contemporary meet on this album, as Gianandrea Noseda conducts Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1—at once something entirely new, yet reaching back to a time gone by.

For his first symphony, Prokofiev, in characteristic style, decided to do the opposite of what was expected of him. The work was composed in 1917, but instead of capturing the turbulence of Revolutionary Russia, Prokofiev kept the work at a distance from political upheaval, making Haydn and Mozart his muses, and writing a work that sparkles with wit, buoyancy and playfulness.

“Noseda and the LSO achieved a good balance here between accentuating the wit and edge, whilst maintaining ‘classical’ precision and simplicity, avoiding simplistic pastiche..

Review – ‘Bach Suites 1 & 3 For Cello’
by Adrian Quanjer

“…What struck me most during my listening tests and comparison sessions, was her style of playing; a style that concurs with the skilled sobriety of the Great Master. It kind of fits in with the chosen surroundings of a village parish church and a room in a stately country house. Though both are distinct, the common denominator is honesty. Emilia Baranowska’s performance is in my view best defined as a genuine display of sincere pureness.
