Housing Solutions To Make Tahoe More Livable

By Julie W. Regan

Lake Tahoe is a wonder not only because of the brilliant blue lake and towering mountains that hold it in place, but also because of the vibrant communities and people that reside here. It is incredibly rare to have this magnitude of pristine beauty and diverse communities that together support a $5 billion regional economy.

I feel fortunate to have been a part of our special community for nearly 30 years. What I’ve learned over the decades is that this delicate balance comes with unique challenges. Homewood & U.S. 50 Not on the Agenda

There has been significant public comment received on the Homewood Master Plan and the U.S. 50 Corridor Plan. Please note that neither of these items are on the February Governing Board agenda and will not be discussed by board members.

All of the comments received for these items via email and earlier public meetings are on the record. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is committed to community engagement and will ensure additional public input opportunities are properly noticed.

2022 In Review

In 2022, TRPA moved a crucial funding plan forward for transportation projects, updated policies to encourage forest fuel reduction projects, and partnered on the Lake Tahoe Climate Resilience Action Strategy, which details more than $400 million in actions needed to build the region’s resilience.

It also marked the 10-year anniversary of the 2012 Regional Plan Update, which streamlined permit processes and incentives to deliver environmental and community benefits.

Tahoe Students Learn Winter Science Slope Side

The South Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition (STEEC) opened the minds of local middle school students to the wonders of winter science at the top of Heavenly Mountain Resort earlier this month.

Thanks to Vail’s EpicPromise grant for lift passes and a Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club grant for transportation, hundreds of eighth graders from Lake Tahoe Unified School District were whisked to the top of the Heavenly tram.

“My favorite part was learning about the native Tahoe trees, and how to measure their height. It was the most interactive station, and the presenters were fantabulous.”
