Forward Forward

Join us on February 22nd at 7pm as we observe Ash Wednesday with prayer, worship, and the imposition of ashes.

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter. Lent is a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal, led by the Spirit and focused on Christ.

Middle school youth group will happen as usual from 5:30pm-6:30pm. There will be no dinner or high school youth group, but we invite them to join us for the Ash Wednesday service at 7:00pm.

We will be having a Congregational Meeting following our Sunday Morning Worship on February 26th to discuss the potential sale of roughly 16 acres of our Camp McCullough property. This will be an informational meeting only; we will not be voting on the sale at this meeting. A light lunch will be served before the meeting. Information about the sale will be posted in Fellowship Hall during coffee hour for the next few Sundays. Please submit your questions or comments to camp@fpctacoma.org before the meeting.

Check out our new Lenten Guide! With the beginning of Lent approaching next week, we hope this guide will help you consider ways to thoughtfully engage in the season. In it you’ll find an explanation of Lent, recommended resources, suggested activities, a reading plan, and more.

Learn more about FPC and what membership means at our  Membership Exploration Class on Sun, March 5th from Noon-3pm in Middleton. Light lunch included. If you need childcare, please let us know in advance. RSVP to Karen Ackerson (253) 272-3286 church office.
Can you even believe we are wrapping up week 4 in our UP season challenge?! We hope that you have found our resources helpful and are encouraged even if you miss a day or two to stick with it! If you did not accept the challenge it's not too late to start new habits with a focus on UP.

This week we are highlighting "Seize the Day -- with Dietrich Bonhoeffer" a 365 Day Devotional by Charles Ringma. This devotional of meditations by theologian and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer helps you see that it is possible to impact the world if we allow ourselves to be transformed into the likeness of Christ. Experience the power of Bonhoeffer’s words in a way that challenges you to live out your discipleship daily—combining personal spirituality with an active concern for those around you.

Starting February 19th, for 6 weeks on Sunday mornings at 9:15, we will be holding a Confirmation class for our high school students. Confirmation is an opportunity to talk about big faith questions and a chance to make your faith your own. Parents, feel free to discuss this with your students, but we think it would be most useful to them if they decide personally to sign up. Please contact mpeirson@fpctacoma.org if you have any questions or would like to sign up.

One of the most beautiful aspects of being in a church body is the privilege of praying with and for each other. As a way of making this more accessible, we have added an option to our prayer request form that you can select if you would like someone from our prayer team to pray with you over the phone. (Link to prayer form is always at bottom of this email.)

And, as part of our UP season, during the month of February our prayer team will be available for in-person prayer after the Sunday services and during the service on 2/26.

Pastor Eric will be running an 11-week workshop designed to help members of our community learn how to engage in our neighborhood around the church. The workshop will run on Sundays from 9:15-10:15am, beginning March 5th. There will be homework each week as well as some experiential learning throughout the term. The workshop is free, but registration is required. Registration will be capped at 20 participants, so don't wait too long to decide. Please contact Eric at ejacobsen@fpctacoma.org to register or if you have any questions.

Our dear Jean Malmin, Visitation Minister, is retiring after faithfully serving our congregation well for nearly 15 years. We will honor her on Sun, Feb 26 during the light lunch before the congregational meeting.

We are praying for the Lord to lead us to our next Minister of Visitation. This person will offer part time pastoral care to people in need as well as build a team to help our whole church care for one another. If you or someone you know might be a good fit for this position, please call Karen Ackerson to let us know or to ask any questions you might have.

MOPS is in need of two more childcare volunteers. Can you or someone you know help us? Just twice a month on Thursday mornings from 9-11:30am. Please contact Barb Gehrett at (253)431-6145 for more details.
